And there was me thinking that the various products I use were unstable because they might need
rebooting every few months.

I'll agree that XP is one of the better offerings from Microsoft. It's just not as useable as
offerings from other sources for doing the usual[1] domestic things at a reasonable price.

Then again, I'd rather be out on my bike than tinkering with the PC.

[1] That is for my house anyway. That includes web server, home gateway/router/webcache, video
capture from the webcams, office package, remote login, music score editing/playback etc.

NT 5.1 is indeed better than previous versions, hence the fact that Microsoft can now get away wioth
Activation. It's just a pity that you have to pay for the upgrade to get the bug fixes, really.

NT 5.0* does, though. I think a lot of people still rate it over 5.1, despite it being hard to get
new. No tellytubby graphics is a perceived advantage, not sure what else.

I never managed to make it recognise the TV tuner in my old office PC, though.

It's easy enough to turn off all the tellytubby graphics in XP and make it look like W2K
(aka NT 5.0).

What I've never managed to do is stop those annoying pop-ups "You have un-used icons on your
desktop", "configure you computer" etc.

Still, nothing some Fedora disks didn't solve 🙂
