It's not a question of money. It's a question of my knowing which servers
allow binaries and how reliable they are. I don't have a lot of time to
research it and I'm just not that panicked over it. I suppose I'll do it
eventually but it's really not in a high spot on my priority list right
now.

I don't think you have Charter set up correctly. Charter has the best
"free" service you are going to get. I know someone has listed other
server's that Charter uses. I just use news.charter.net and have no
trouble at all.

Although Charter puts a cap on upload speed, it is unlimited access.
If you can learn how to take advantage of using both channels at the
same time, you can double your download speed.

Many news readers do this, but no free ones that I can think of.
40tude maybe. Grabit is another one, but I wouldn't count it as a
news reader. Grabit is good for binary access if you do a bunch.

You can get addicted to the binary groups fast if you have a reliable
server.

I have Charter set up correctly. I've had Charter as an ISP for years
and it pretty much sucks. A year or 2 ago Charter farmed their Usenet
service out to another company. Might be Tradewinds or something like
that. I still use news.charter.net but I'm then redirected to the other
servers on the third party servers. Maybe yours is better. I dunno.
Charter's service is horrendous here in St. Louis. Both the TV and cable
connections have a LOT of down time.

About the only binary groups I read and sometimes post to are food and
gardening groups that accept binaries. I do read the groups daily.
Sometimes I'll look at the pics in travel groups but not real often.

Charter has people there participating.
