Tony Randall is one of my favorite actors. He was a riot on
The Odd Couple.

When I got back to my hotel room last night around
11:00, I noticed that CNN's Larry King was hosting a show
devoted to Tony Randall with several tv/movie stars who
worked with Tony Randall. I mosted most of the show, but
what I saw looked interesting. I suspect CNN might re-run
this show again.

His widow was on the phone in the beginning of the show. She
sounded nice and I'm glad she called in. He was 50 years
older than she was...

I think his passing is particularly sad because of the age
of his children.

Someone else who remembers this show. I remember it as a
young single mother living with a gay man. All this was
during the 70's way before Will and Grace made being gay
a regular thing on TV and that man-to-man kiss on
'thirtysomething' made all the headlines. He was ahead
of his time.

He was reticent to marry her because he knew he'd leave
her a young widow, but the look on his face when he
showed off his baby was a delight to see. He had a huge
smile. Worth it.

orientation in the show. We knew, even if we hadn't seen the
movie, that he was gay because at the time there was a big
fuss about it, but the show was more about 'a nice single
man helping out a woman & her young daughter' than 'a gay
man living with a young woman & her daughter'.

The cable channel Game Show Network will be having a TR
tribute on it's "Black and White Overnight" segments
Saturday morning at 4AM Eastern/3AM Central. First show is a
_Password_, the next is a _What's My Line?_ - both shows
from the mid - 60's...both featuring Tony.

family members often fill gaps in children's lives.

Randall's widow said she thought that Randall would live to

He was healthy and active (and he looked it, too) up until
he got sick.

I believe that they thought they'd have a longer time
together.

She really cared for him. Of course, I thought Anna Nicole
really cared for her husband, too.

Died after "a long illness". That's usually the euphemism
for cancer.

No, I was wrong. According to the NY Times obituary,
he had a triple bypass operation in December, got ill
with pneumonia and never got out of the hospital after
the surgery.
