Greg hasn't posted here for a while. It seems that he's been banned from posting via google because someone got their knickers in a twist about an OT post he made here several months ago. He's asked me to apologize for his offense. This is it. He's sorry.
Greg's a nice guy. That someone reported him to google for doing once what a boatload of others continue to do here regularly and frequently boggles my mind. And he regrets that he wasn't able to address his transgression on group and apologize in this forum. -- -Barb, <www.jamlady.eboard.com> updated 5/7/04 - Fajita Soup.

What the hell? That's ridiculous. And, unless I'm mistaken, I haven't seen him post anything offensive so this is uncalled for. Tell him to find a way to get back here. He sure doesn't owe me any apology.

This is crazy, I do not remember anything he has said that was so awful. This newsgroup has had people make comments all the time and not get into trouble. I think Google is out of line... Rosie

Nothing against Greg, but the idea that he has been banned from posting for a single off-topic post really stretches the imagination. And even if he was it would take about 5 minutes to find another way to post. This story just does not hold water.

You gotta be kidding. The following is the only thing I could find by Greg that was even off-topic (except when he replied to someone else's OT [censored].) BTW, I didn't use Google to search jic they had expunged his post; a server that I don't use very often still has almost 100000 active messages for r.f.c.
Brace yourselves, this isn't pretty [he said, sarcasticly]:

That's too bad, and he's missed here by me and, I'm sure, by many others. Obviously there must be a reason why he must post via google, but AFAIC google is one of the worst posting methods there is. Hope he finds a way!

How does he know that google banned him and it's not just a glitch in the system? Why doesn't he post through his ISP using a real news reader? I'd never consider using Google as my main news source.
This is crazy, I do not remember anything he has said that was so awful. This newsgroup has had people make comments all the time and not get into trouble. I think Google is out of line...
Since people don't pay to use google, they have a very hardass policy towards spamming, trolling and off-topic posting in general. They'd rather can people when complaints come in than deal with it.
It should be noted that most ISPs forbid off-topic posting to usenet groups. It's just that few will take action for relatively innocuous instances, because they don't want to get rid of paying customers. Google doesn't have that problem.

Why wouldn't he use a real news reader and a real ISP? Google isn't the easiest way to read your ngs on a regular basis.

Says who? I've been slamming the Bush family for decades. Especially the one that lives a mile down the road from me. Never had a problem being bounced from anywhere and I've been scathing in some of my posts.

I don't know about that....
AFAIK when Google puts the kibbosh on your Usenet posting capability, they don't do anything to indicate that you've been banned....you get no correspondence about the situation. You seemingly post as before, but your posts simply don't show up. There is no "posting privileges rescinded" or whatever message that pops up when you try to post....which is sloppy practice and is still another reason why Google falls far short of the mark when it comes to Usenet....
