I don't know if this will help you or not, but have you tried the East Coast Greenway (greenway.org)
for information? They might be able to help you with a route along the Atlantic. I'm over on the
Suncoast and don't have alot of familiarity with the East Coast. But if you do find a good route,
please share it with us since you just never know when it might come in handy.

Your best bet is to take 27 all the way into Miami.This is a divided highway with wide shoulders
going through the scenic interior of Fl.You might even take some excurtions on backroads paralleling
this route at times particularly around the Lake Wales/Sebring region. This road(27) will be listed
on any map of Fl. but for a detailed map look for the delorme map for Fl. It is available at any
book or drug store in state but you may have to order it if outofstate.In Miami do not continue on
997 or Krome Ave. to continue to bypass Miami or else be prepared to ride on the grass the next 17
miles as this stretch is very dangerous(ie from 27 to 41).I rode this route (27)from Gainesville to
Ft. Lauderdale last Thanksgiving.On the way up I took
A1A/Rt.1 and cut across on 44/42 at New Smyrna Bch.I was told the routes from Orlando to the east
Coast were dangerous due to congestion and lack of shoulders and of course you can't ride on the
interstates.If you have any other questions I will try to answer them.

I would qualify Hwy 27 as quite dangerous myself and nothing I would want to be cycling on. Cars
regularly drive 80 mph (and a few faster) and there are tons of trucks as well. If you are thinking
at doing this in the Winter you also have to add in the snowbirds and the Citrus trucks.

There is also lots of road debris (blown tires, galss, and car rejects as you might expect to find
on what is basically a highway but with traffic lights and people coming in and out...

Don't really have a good suggestion of the top of my head, but my vote goes against Hwy 27 - I'm
also assuming you want this ride to be somewhat enjoyable and not a Dare stunt.

If you will read the post you will find I have actually already cycled this route and it is also the
route most touring cyclists recommend taking travelling north to south through Fl.I found no
problems but then again I find no problems cycling all over urban Broward Co.so a little traffic
with a wide shoulder doesn't phase me.If anyone is afraid of 27 I would definately avoid Rt 1 on the
east coast but really what I would suggest is to develop the skills to safely ride in traffic before
setting off on any tour.As I said there are some more rural backroads paralleling some of this route
but one would have to get out a detailed map and just plan these yourself.

Also as you don't have a vote on my touring plans I suggest you direct any further correspondence to
the original poster who may be more susceptable to a "spamming"promoter "bait and switching" to a
"custom" planned "outing".

Hi Chris Sorry if I overreacted somewhat but I think after hearing about how dangerous cycling is
for about the millionth time I get somewhat tired/sensitive of continuing to hear it.I realize many
prefer to ride on backroads rather than on more heavily travelled main roads. Personally I think
there are advantages and disadvantages to both.If a main road has a wide shoulder or wide outer lane
I have no problem.If a backroad has little traffic again I have no problem.Some of the most
dangerious roads in Fl I have cycled on have been narrow backroads with enough truck traffic that
you risk two meeting head on where you are also riding.Quess which way they will swerve.For example
south of Sebring I took 98 off of 27 as a shortcut back to Broward and this turned out to be a big
mistake as the truck traffic got so bad that it was extremely dangerous once the shoulder(the
trucker who recommended the route assured me existed) ended. So I think I was simply answering the
original poster's question what is the best route between the two locations.I guess I took the
approach that riding between two urban areas he had some experience riding in traffic and wanted a
fairly direct ridable route which is what I answered.It is sort of like riding the Keys which many
enjoy doing again and again.You pretty much have to ride Rt. 1 and it has all the attributes you
attribute to 27 but if you want to do that ride thats the price you pay.

If you've done that itinerary and had fun doing it, that's great and I'm glad you had a good time.
I just have a different perception of what I want my cycling routes to be is all... I'm not saying
one is better than the other, just giving my opinion on traveling such a route. Different strokes
for different folks...

Hyw 27 doesn't get my vote for cycling, that's all... this is not a judgement on you. You're the
lucky one after all... you can have a good time cycling on more routes than I.
