What colour lenses do you ride with at night/dusk/dawn?
It's too light when I leave work for clear lenses and too dark when I get home for tinted lenses. I don't want to have to swap them over half way home so I'm looking to get an in between pair. The options I've got are red with 28% light transmission or yellow with 87% light transmission. I'd also like to think I could use these lenses for mountain bike rides where there's both open fire road and shady single track. At the moment I'm tending towards the red because I don't like the yellow tellytubby. My only concern is that the red is going to be too dark.
Has anyone had experience riding in low light with red lenses, particularly the Rudy Project 'racing red' ?

blue or Yello. the yello ones are great in bright/clear skies and highlight traffic light too. Also very good for playing Baseball...🙂

I just swapped my old Bunnings yellow safety glasses for some Bolle clear safety glasses. They are better in lower light I reckon but they let in heaps of glare during the day (well.. duh).

I don't like red. It taints the scene too much. If I were you I'd definately get yellow and maybe clear. I've ridden with yellow lenses for a couple of years now in all light conditions in all weather and all seasons. I think yellow is pretty good. On bright days (if I KNOW it will stay bright) I will try to use dark tinted sunnies. Melbourne weather is a bit fickle so I'm often out in the middle of the day, mid-summer with yellow lenses..

Yellow all the way - clear are fine, of course, but I just prefer the yellow. It seems to intensify light somehow - probably psychosomatic, but there you go. Never tried red. It'd probably increase my tendency to road rage or something
I use orange for filthy weather... they're good for brightening up a rainy day, for making stuff stand out more and for making you look like Bono. 😉
That said, during good weather I use Rudy Project black lenses and am looking to get a pair of the Racing Red lenses because they've been recommended to me by people at bike shops... after reading the comments here, I might look into getting yellow instead.

The yellow lenses give increased contrast at dawn & dusk by removing the blue, which is more scattered. Yellow or clear should be OK at any time, unless you are in the snow.
Do the red-tinted ones have any practical purpose? Or is the colour just for looks?

For comparison, the legal minimum for driving is 8% transmission.

I usually just wear either the dark or the clear.
Orange/yellow are better in low light/dusk but I can't be bothered taking 3 pairs of glasses so when it gets too dark for sunnies I just switch to clear.
Yellow for playihg cricket in low light, i guess the same could apply for cyclist.

The advertising material suggets they enhance visual depth, eliminate eye fatigue and recommend them for variable light conditions. They say the same thing about the blue. I'm not sure if I should believe any of that though.
