  1. I know that the members of this group look poorly at herbal remedys. So I am a bit hesitant to
    bring this up.

But, a friend from Mexico says that the Doctors there treat type 2 diabetics with the leaves of the
Prickly Pear Cactus. The chemical name is Opuntia lasiacanta.

He says that there are a number of scientific studies of this plant.

If there is anyone here who has access to Medline, could you please check to see if there is any
    information of value there.

No, I am not selling anything and I don't trust anyone who is.

  2. A friend of mine who is from Mexico says that Diabetics there do very poorly and suffer from
    complications.

OK. Thanks Andrea, for that lead.

I did a Medline search. There seems to be a number of small studies that indicate this plant has a
hypoglycemic effect. Most of the papers are from Africa and Mexico. I do not have the technical
training to be able to evaluate these studies. Maybe one of our technically adept members could look
at the studies and let us know if there is any value in this substance.
