Opinions on bike needed

I could only get the Mecier link to work - Tiagra is pretty good, not superlight or anything, and the Shimano wheels R500s are rather tough, a few people complain about them going out of true rather easy, but I have used them and found them rather solid.

Both bikes seem to have similar specs Tiagra - personally I like the look of the Mercier, looks more racey - would you use the tri-bars - they come off if you don't.

The price looks alright to me. Make sure you get the right size.

Same here, can't comment on the other bike you posted.

One thing, the Mercier has a relatively steep seat tube at 75 degrees meaning it's a bit better suited to TT's and triathalons than general road riding since its neutral saddle position is a bit further forward. It also makes the top tube effectively longer for general road use as most folks will push the seat all the way back or even use a set back seat post to compensate for the steeper seat tube. Not an issue if you intend to use it as a TT or triathalon bike where you'll spend a lot of time on the aero bars. A forward seat position can help you achieve a comfortable aero position with good upper arm to torso angles when using the TT bars.

Anyway, it depends a bit on you and what you intend to do with the bike. I'd be very surprised if Mercier doesn't make a more road oriented model at a similar price point if that's how you'll use the bike.

I think I might be leaning more towards this one. I will be using the bike for long distance riding on the weekends and the ocassional commute during the week.

This bike looks pretty suited to your needs. I don't know much about this brand, I've never seen one here in Australia.

You'll probably like the triple chainring on the front.

Thanks for the info, i think the Vent Noir might be the better choice for my usage. I too have just heard about this brand name Motobecane. Upon research I find that this was popular french bicycle manufacturer back in the 80s and sold to an american company around that time.
