opinion on GT

GT is now owned by Pacific bikes, commonly seen in department stores. Check out
www.gtmountainbikes.com for the low down on all the I-drive models. Much has been said on this group
on the quality (or lack of
it) both before and after the sale of the company, but as a former owner of a GT XCR3000 and someone
who recognizes good specs when he sees them, you just may be interested in what they have to
offer now. Word is that the 2004 models will see a slight I-drive redesign too.

Yeah, the most recent "Mountain Biking" showed a few pics of the i-Drive2
(ID2). Seems to be a pretty significant revision... and the editor said they got to ride the
prototype at Sea Otter. Said it was more refined and much lighter weight than the old i-Drive.
That flimsy dogbone looks scary, but hopefully it'll hold together. Gone is the interrupted
seat tube and that heavy-looking eccentric BB. Prices will range from $1350-3500.

Lance, I bought an old GT XCR STS1000, carbon fibre, i-drive, full susser, second hand last year. I
was about to sell it 'cos I needed the cash and was going to buy my son and myself a pair of much
cheaper more modern full sussers with the proceeds... Then I thought about it a bit and realised I
would never get such an easy to ride bike in the price range I was looking at. It fits me like a
glove (no, not 4 fingers, 1 thumb etc ;-), so I kept it. Have heard good and bad stuff about GT
quality, but I'm well impressed with this particular unit ;-). Obviously since this bike was
manufactured GT have been through all the trouble you referred to. Cheers, Dave.

Yeah that looks like the Ruckus. I will have to get that magazine from work and scan the pictures in
if you're interested. More info should be available soon, as it will be released with the 2004
lineup in just a few months.
