I used to ride BMX and raced mountain bikes in '89. I've
never owned a bike with any suspension, and was wanting
something that I can ride hard and get air with. The diamond
back in that auction looks pretty nice.... I don't suppose
it will go too cheaply though. Has anyone ever ridden one of
these things? What do you think it is worth?

    IMHO, it's already over-priced at $250+

    Keep searching.

I figured that the Marzocchi Z.5 4" Fork, and Rhyno Lite
rims might be worth that much. I really don't know much
about current equipment though. Do you have any
recommendations? I considered getting a pair of forks for
my old mountain bike, but wonder if it might FUBAR the
    frame geometry.

You might want to mention where you'll be riding, type of
    trails, your weight, height... etc.

I don't know a whole lot about hard tails, but I've seen
some pretty nice P3's (Specialized) for relatively cheap.
Have you checked out some local shops? Even if you're not
going to buy retail, I suggest you visit some shops and
get a feel for what's out there. You can also get some
idea of the prices; it will help you bargain, and find a
    good used deal.

You can also take a few weekends, and go hiking on your
local trails. Watch some people riding and talk to them. It
might totally change your point of view.

    Excellent advice, thanks.

I am 6' tall 150lbs, and will be riding mostly street and
dirt with some trail riding. I was WAY into BMX in the 80s,
    and still ride pretty aggresively.

I will be meeting up with some people to go riding
(freeride) soon, and will probably just take my 24" BMX
cruiser which I am very comfortable on. Maybe I will be able
to take a spin on some suspension bikes then.

Saw this bike down at the local shop.... It looks pretty
damn nice for $600. I had my kid with me or I woulda test
rode it. I think I will be going back there next week to
    try one out.

Naaah. If you have a BMX background, what you really want is
    one of these:

    Note: it's my bike.

Nice... I have a single speed already though 🙂

  9. I can't wait to test ride the STP now.

Found this in some forums... there are some pretty cool
videos and pictures on that site too.

In my opinion, the Giant is the best, here's why. Every
frame I've ever broken in the past five years, Schwinn or
Giant has cracked at the wishbone seatstay and seat tube
junction. The new Giant STP uses a hydroformed top tube that
is pierced, making the top tube and wishbone one piece. This
is seriously the biggest improvement to bike frames I've
seen in a really long time. The other key point is the
geometry, unlike the Kona and Haro which probably have 16.75
or longer chainstays, the STP has 16" chainstays which are
good for technical riding and dirt jumping. The bike is
really nimble and fun to ride, and the component spec is
good too. Make sure you check it out, you'll definately be
    impressed.
