You can certainly get better deals online these days than you can in-store. I say these days as I remember not too long ago I could go to a store and haggle about a price or get extras included as they wanted your custom and would bend a little.
Now though I think the bricks and mortar stores have all but given up trying to compete, and while a lot will price match, like you say by the time you've factored in getting to and from the store, delivery and everything else, the online option is still the better deal.
