I bought a bike computer from Dean Woods www.deanwoods.com.au. One of the buttons stopped working after about a month. I emailed them, they told me to return it. I posted it back, and I had a new one within 3 days. It was a very smooth process.

great prices... i got my cous to pick it up.. bought a set of R500s for $179... for commuting

i also use phantom and have bought from deanwoods too

recently i discovered ebay and there are some cheap accesories...

of course there is always a risk, but i reckon if you spend less than $200 on ebay.. it is worth it

Cecil Walker reckon they're online sellers, but I'm not sure how their set-up compares to the massive OS online shops

Here are the online stores I have had experience with. Many of these have already been mentioned but I'll give a brief description. Also, I'm not sure whether you are after road or MTB but I'll try and cover these as well.

One of my favourites and apparently a favourite of many others. Kerry and the guys are good. Quick and painless shopping experience. If you set up an account (free service where you simply create a userid and password) any purchase made can accrue points which you can later use toward future purchases. This is not unlike frequent flyers points. Their prices are very competitive, availability is very good and delivery is very quick.

Another favourite of mine. Mark is an extremely helpful guy and will provide good sound advice without trying to 'upsell' you to a more expensive product. They have a good selection online at very good prices. Prices indicated include postage (except where stated). I like to buy smaller parts from them that other sellers don't tend to show online. They also have monthly sales and a bargain can found.

I remember when these guys were Greenwood cycles. I went to the store recently and they are certainly growing. They have decent prices but not a huge range at this stage. There are more items in the 'shop/warehouse' not shown online; particularly accessories and tools.

These guys have a reasonably extensive range online compared to other stores. Their prices are prestty good and the prices include postage as well. Turnaround is also good. Only on one occassion did an item go missing . I called and they posted another, no questions asked, within a couple of days.

I have only bought a couple of things from these guys and both times were quick and easy transactions. I don't think the range online is as extensive as those previously listed.

http://www.torpedo7.com/ - Road and MTB - NZ based. Fairly extensive range. Plenty of specials; however, sizes can be limited. Very good bargains regularly.
http://www.cyclelink.com.au/ - Not a large range online but have been quick to deliver goods.

Sorry if this post is a bit long but hopefully there's something here you can take away and look into. Although I've tried a few I regularly go back to Phantom, Moruya and Cecil Walker. Sometimes by looking around, however, you can find the same item cheaper elsewhere.

I bought a complete time bike with groupset, tyres etc from totalcycling.comtotalcycling.comOpen ↗ they are based in Ireland. It took about a month to get the goods but well worth it. About $6000 in savings, plus they upgraded my frame for free as there were none in stock.Nice.I have also purchased tyres etc since I bought my bike.This took about 14 days.But once again saved heaps.Everthing came packed really well..no probs.

Total cycling seems to be quite expensive on shipping. 25 pounds flat rate ... thats quite prohibitive unless you are putting in a large order.

Did I read the shipping costs incorrectly?

I would recommend you look at ProBikeKit who I have dealt with numerous times. Prices are excellent and I have always had the order within 6 days and they charge a flat 19 dollars australian. They also have what seems to be a very useful returns policy if something is not what you thought it was or is faulty, although at this point I have not had to use it. I had one order which had a problem due to my fault and communicated with them extensively where I completely changed the order in the process and they were willing to deal via fax or telephone as well as email. In short I have had several very good experiences with them.

You are right with the 25 pounds flat rate shipping.If you are going to order large then it is worth the cost. It would seem better to look around at other local i.e Australian producers for smaller orders

In my mind, the whole point of the internet was to access international markets. The cheaper the better.

Sites like Probikekit (which I have honestly dealt with before), delivers in 6 days where as locals will take about 3-4. However, the prices are nearly half for most items.

Is there any real benefits considering you do not get advice anyways?

I wasnt overly impressed with Torpedo 7 in that 2 of the 3 items I ordered were cancelled because they didnt have stock even though the website indicated stock available. In their favour they did advise me by email and immediately refunded my credit card.

Given ProBikeKit's items are ex V.A.T, do we pay G.S.T on top of this $19 fee? Im interested in purchasing a wheelset and wondering with GST if it is still worthwhile.

on the deals I have done with Probikekit I have never been billed for GST or duty since I have never gone to that limit which on duty I believe is somewhere around the $900 to $1000 mark.
