I spent most of today in a closing. I sat next to our financial advisor most of that time. After the closing, I went back to the office, changed out of the business duds and put on the bike stuff. You know, lime green jersey, hi-vis yellow jacket, black tights, that sort of thing. I come out of our building on the bike and down Second Ave, and there this guy, the FA, was standing on the corner. I said "hi!", and I think he had absolutely not a clue who I was. I think the clothes and the bike put me so far out of context, it was like I was from Mars, and not the person he worked with on the deal for so many months, and all day today.

Same thing happens when I meet cyclists I hammer with on group rides and we run into each other on the street in street clothes.
It especially happens when I meet other windsurfers dry.
The question is, did he not recognize you because of the context or because of a prejudice he holds? (something like professional people don't ride bikes for transportation)

Pssst, Claire....Leo thinks you're c-u-u-u-t-e!!
Question is, is Leo cute? A google search only turns up posts about bicycles and wood- and metalworking (and a few other topics), and the fact he volunteered printing services for a number of grateful, worthy nonprofits.

What was his reaction when an attractive cyclist in tight pants, that he thought he didn't know, gave him a cheery greeting?
According to his email received since, he was focused on getting a taxi to get him to the airport, and my cheery greeting did not register at all.
This makes me smile. The reason - I can see people I normally meet at cycling events, when they are in varying shades and colours of Lycra club kit, but if I meet them in 'normal' clothing, I can totally not realise who I've just met :-)

Thanks, Claire, for deleting all the embarrassing stuff.

When I show up at an event, it's generally easy to tell which of my friends are already inside. I recognise their bikes parked outside. -- zk
Certainly not "incognito". Not wile wearing lime green and hi-viz yellow. :-)
