Alternative Solution:

Use a newsreader that allows you to filter them out by thread or poster
and ignore them.

troll is blocked his rubbish still gets through. I keep blocking those who
reply to cross posts, who seem to reside primarily in other groups, so I
haven't noticed any loss of contributions to uk.rec.cycling.

I agree, almost. I have lost a couple of regulars to the kill file
because they could not resist wrestling the trolls despite several
polite reminders.

Haven't used it, as I don't use google. I suspect you have to copy the
whole lot into notepad, save as a .js file and run. Don't take my word for
this, I'm not an expert in these matters.

That's known as second level plonking. The troll earns bonus points
if he gets subscribers to plonk other subscribers.

you need to install greasemonkey (on firefox) first then the JS gets
handled correctly.

Seems to work only in the Titles view, not the titles plus summary

If I remember correctly some from rbm filed complaints with blogger also
and that may have been the downfall of that blog. Who knows. Who
cares. It's gone that's the desired outcome.
