I think the winner will be a surprise, but the podium (2nd and 3rd) will be the regular players like betini and rebellin.

Unfortunately, Rebellin will also be absent (he wasn't selected by the Italian Olympic Comittee).

Ullrich sure was riding well at the end of the Tour de France. Why do you count him out?

I'm not counting Ullrich out, but he wasn't riding that well at the Tour. Sure, he finished 4th, but that was largely a result of impressive time trialling. Since the Tour, he hasn't recorded any wins and didn't make the final selection at San Sebastien (his mechanical occured after he was dropped). Ullrich is a major contender, no doubt, but I think Vino is the favorite.

Anyone think that any of the Americans have a shot? Hincapie? Hamilton? Julich? I don't see them as favorites but just wanted to hear some opinions on their chances.
Personally I think Vino is going to take the gold.

I think Zabel is going to dig deep to cap off a fantastic career. My other choice is Ogrady or McEwen. Hincapie has the best sprint for the Americans but it still isn't that good as they left the best sprinter Fred Rodriguez off the team. I think it will come down to a break of 5 to 10 riders. -
Axel Merckx picked up a Bronze in Athens at the Olympic Road Race, 7 seconds back from Gold medalist Bettini.
