Oldest written manuscripts?

Yes, I would consider stone tablets as manuscript. What I'm after is the earliest known written form written by man, and if the date given is authentic as well as how they arrived at that date.

I beleive that the Story of Ghildemesh (spelling) is considered th be the first text story know.
It is of Sumerian origin and the Sumerian left a lot of evidence in written tablets.
There again I am not an expert and only have knowledge from reading about that civilization that pre dated the Eqyptians.
I believe they were dated to have existed from around 2700 BC or so.

There's also a historical theory that Sumer is the place that Adam and Eve's sons went to in order to find wives (one of the big religious unanswered questions). I don't think you'll find that in a cycling forum however...

Does anyone know when the first manuscripts of the Old Testiment were written? Are they not as old as the Gilgamesh story?

I know carbon dating has shown that the arc of the covenant (10 commandments) to be circa 2200 BC.

I believe the olest of the Dead Sea Scolls is 200 BC and the story of Gildemesh ,which some say is a striking resemblance to the story of Noah,dates to approximately 2100 BC.
