  1. Been looking for a True Temper OX Trek 930 MTB for the frame, but ended up
with a whole bike in very good condition this week off local craigslist, a
'96. The bike came stock with a Shimano Silent Clutch rear hub and a bunch
of parts named "System Components" - bar, stem, front hub. Anyone know or
remember if these were Trek in-house brand? Maybe a precursor to the Icon
stuff they started putting on later bikes? '96 was pre-Bontrager too, I
    think. TIA.

You are correct; "System" components were their house brand, pre-dating Icon
    and Bontrager.

Get rid of it. They were notorious failers. Replace the wheel.

    Yup.

  4. Yup,
got a '96 Trek 7000 that I bought new and had 'System' bits that as far as I
    know were Trek in-house.
Lasted well - still got the front wheel in the shed but every single
component except the frame has been changed over the years in it's guise as
rigid mtb, fs mtb and now long distance Bob Yak pulling tourer. Nice steelie
you got yourself - I also run a True Temper OX Kona Explosive

Interesting! I must have got a good one 'cos it's still going strong having
MTB'd and toured as a 26" and now has a slightly shorter axle and a 700c rim
11 years later! I've got another one destined for a 20" rim on the folder
but may forgo that if they've got a bad rep. Just have to use a Hope Ti
    instead......

Aren't a whole bunch of police bikes equipped with these jobbies? Not that
cop bikes were anything spectacular. Although I did hear that Arizona border
patrol guys rode Stumpjumpers back in the days.
