I like to think it's a new era in shifters. I call it CrapidKludge.
Now if I could only get it in an 8-speed indexed version. . .

Those are like absolute entry level or department store
thumbshifters. But you probably knew that already. Regular
Deore or even Exage, etc, thumbies can switch to friction
and feel much more smooth. Around here you can sometimes
buy Deore 6-speed thumbies for about $15-30 at the flea
market, with an entire bike attached to them, of varying
quality and upkeep. 7-speed are rarer. If you find 7-speed
Shimano thumbies, they will shift 8 speed by going Beyond the
Final Click Frontier.

I meant I wish I could get a *left* shifter in 8-speed index. Then, I would
mount it upside down [as in said picture] for pure shifting joy.
