You have to use Photoshop to brighten it up enough to tell, but they don't
look bad at all. If I saw that on a rider I wouldn't think anything, I have
had worse RR on training rides. I do take him at his word that the lower
back pain was so severe that he couldn't get his legs going on the climbs.

Is that knobble on the top of his right (from back) shoulder the result of last years broken collar bone?

"I lot of people may think I had to abandon the Tour due to pain.
Although the injury is painful, this is not the case. It was really a
lack of power. Your legs can only function with the full strength of the
muscles in your stomach and lower back. With one side out of commission,
I didn't have the power I needed to push the pedals. If you saw the
coverage on television, there was no suffering on my face, because I was
physically unable to push myself to that point."

Dude, if you get road rash on training rides, you need to find new
    training partners.

    Does his wife beat him?

  7. The guy has built up such a massive reserve of good faith with me that
    I'd believe just about anything.

It was interesting seeing him waving/thanking all those people in the
Tour de France caravan while abandoning.

    Total class act.

Have you done a 180 degree body slam at 65 kph? The bruises are only
the superficial part of the story. Pulled muscles and torn ligaments,
if that's the case, could be a serious problem and I think he may be
optimistic in targeting Olympics and Vuelta. Let's wait on the MRI,
    shall we?

I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear that you forgive him.

  10. Tyler is a man to respect. One of the good, honest competitors in the
field. This man should have, as most other would have done, quit before he
did. He deserves nothing less than positive criticism. Those offering
negative comments deserve to spend a few days in the saddle in his
    condition.

After doing some adjusting of the photo it sure looks like there is a lot of
bruising and swelling in the center of his lower back that doesn't show that
well. My thought was how the hell did he ride at all after the adrenaline wore
    off.

But just based on checking out the photo, what can you see? Ask Andy. The
post said to check out the photo and my point was without knowing all the
facts just based on looking at that you can't see much at all. But, I'm not
a doctor, so Andy's two cents would be interesting. In fact without
Photoshop, it's very dark and you can't see anything.

[censored], I didn't see that! With PS I just brighten it up and all I saw was
just a few. That looks pretty bad.

I think that with Dan being an IEEE geek he may have done a little more
adjusting than I did since I swore off that kind of stuff a while ago.
