I know I was well into my thirties before I realised that (being a mathematician with certificate to proves it ... well, actually, without a certificate because when I was a nipper this University didn't do certificates unless you paid extra for them and I didn't pay extra, but the point stands) I had been doing the sums wrong for years and was no longer twenty-four as thought I was. I think I missed my fortieth birthday too, possibly by being my being away when it happened. Yes.

In this case the old codger asking the question was turning 50 and ended up with a 20" DM Ringmaster, which he can now ride for about 50 yards, but still not freemount. :-)
I'd be interested in hearing about this trip as I am toying with the idea of cycling to Nordkappe for my 40th in 2005, is there a report anywhere on the WWW ?
Long, long way through neverending forest. Many lakes and rivers, ground may still be waterlogged with snowmelt at higher latitude, and by June, huge mozzies. And of course 24 hours daylight. Very gradual change from boreal forest through silver birch to open-ish tundra as you get further north. Away from the roads, you have probably the most remote places in western Europe.
We did Nordkapp as a family holiday (not by bike) when I was a child. If I get a chance to go back it'll probably be with a backpack and possibly kayak rather than cycling. But - go for it!
