  1. I really don't like to fan the flames of religious stereotypes. But this is
over the top. The Iranian government wants to train large numbers of suicide
bombers. Word is that they already have 50,000 volunteers. Big time scary
development. If these freaks were used to any degree against western
targets, Iran would become a radiactive wasteland.

I'm not at all surprised. If we allow them to attain nuclear weapon
capabilities, we are beyond stupid as a Country.

When will people realize this is a religious war? You can be an atheist,
but still recognize that fact. They want to convert or destroy anybody who
isn't Muslim. If you are an atheist, you are just as much an infidel as a
    Christian in their eyes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "this". Iran isn't at war (yet)

The war with Iraq wasn't religious, it was a war with secular Arab nationalism.

btw, Tariq Aziz is a christian.

Iran is an Islamic fundamentalist state, and they just replaced a moderate prime
minister with an extremist who was involved in the hostage incident.

Arab fascists are bad, but the fundamentalists are worse.

I'm not a fan of suicide bombers, but it's the most effective weapon they
have. They cannot hope to compete with us on a military level, but they can
surely have Ahmed strap some plastic explosive to himself and KABOOM.

    Cheers,

It surprises me how many people believe that Saddam Hussein and his regime
were fundamentalist Islam. They most definitely WERE NOT. The Iraqi
government, while brutal, was also secular. There were no religious police,
no public stonings. Women, Christians, and Jews all were allowed to do their
own thing. The people who bore the brunt of Saddam's rage were the
Shi'a---and they're the same whacky fundamentalists we're fighting NOW. We
will have succeeded in turning a secular state into an Islamic
fundamentalist state by the time we're done. Not a very well thought out
war, IMHO. Didn't anybody see this coming? Since Iraq is majority Shi'a, and
they were oppressed by the Sunni, didn't it make sense that the Shi'a would
take over and eventually enforce fundamentalist Islam?

Arab nationalism is *not* the same thing as religious fundamentalism.
Different. In fact a competitor. Potentially a useful force for keeping the
fundies under control (which is what Saddam did) but also potentially
dangerous (like Saddam, or like any loony fascist). Saddam was more like
Kim Il Sung than he was like Khomeni.

Nope. It's a war of attrition, and they can sacrifice enough people to

missing limbs, the troops will be out of there. This is going to be a huge
