I read a story about some police dogs in Victoria, Australia. It seems they
were trained to sniff out cocaine by using seized cocaine from the police
evidence room. During training, the dogs did great. But when in the field,
the dogs ignored cocaine and would alert to baby powder.
The investigation that followed discovered that all the cocaine in the
evidence room had been replaced with talcum powder. So these great police
dog trainers were teaching their drug dogs with a placebo!!
Now they are trying to find out who ripped off the evidence room.
And all the dogs are sitting at home.
How is that for a screwup?
I can't help but wonder how much did all this cost. It costs big bucks to
train these dogs.
And another thing. Is there some kinda remedial training for drug dogs who
alert to baby powder?
