  1. just make sure you check the widget-arm on the maniform, and you won't
end up with a bent Johnson-rod.

I was just in the commissary picking up an afternoon snack when a stressed
intern came up to the cashier while I was paying and he asked her if she
could help him. As I walked off I heard him earnestly ask: "If someone
orders black coffee what do I put in it?" Ah, the life of an unpaid intern,
at the mercy of anyone with a powertrip, large or small.

The young and obviously new waitress proudly announced that the soup was
    "Soup de Jour".

I looked at a couple of my friends and they looked back at me, slightly
bemused. Being a [censored] and having been in hospitality for years myself,
I paused and carefully asked her if she could tell me whether or not the
    de jours were fresh?

She thought about it for a moment and then then cheerful told me that
she couldn't, but she'd just check with the Chef and she'd be back in a
moment. She bounced towards the kitchen and disappeared from sight.

A couple of minutes later the supervisor came to the table and told me
that he'd be happy to take our order for us and that the soup was, in
fact, Leek and Potato (or whatever it really was). I don't know what
happened to our waitress, I didn't see her again.
