To be honest, you cannot rank the cities by metro populations (I spent 15
years in the radio game), you have to get the arbitron (or Nielson whatever
for TV) rankings based on TSA (total survey area). Many cities do not have
huge metro populations but once you include the suburbs, their population
grows.
No idea if this makes a difference here, and really don't care, but if we
are going to nitpick.

Baseball when the commisioner's office was deciding to hand out new or
transfer franchises. The above info was presented out of the context of both
baseball and business considerations.

Because Las Vegas has so many options for entertainment, the population
available for baseball is much smaller than another city that does not have
the competition with other entertainment venues. This combined with the fact
that there isn't much television audiences out in the desert.

So ALL the facts I presented are important considerations for both owners
and MLB. I noticed that you didn't make any comments about any of the other
points I raised. You obviously are not capable of making any kind of

information, so despite having no interest in Baseball or US
demographics, I did a little research of my own.

The results would prove that David was substantially correct:

Michaels stated that Las Vegas has too small a population to support a
major league baseball team

not include the metropolitan areas, which for a major leaque
franchise is the important number (btw, London England has a
population of only about 400,000 I'm told, though greater
London is about 8,000,000).

If the divergence in numbers is as you describe, then I may well be in
error, for which of course I will apologise.

However, it would be interesting to learn the current populations and
to see if the relative input has altered since Hanson's 2000 figures.

It does appear odd that a town the size of Las Vegas can't support a
baseball team. However, it is not something I know or care about, so
it is no big deal.

I was really only concerned about defending my dear departed Oz chum's
