Assuming its not a laptop have you got an old keyboard you could try?

If it is a laptop you can usually release the keyboard fairly easily and
check the ribbon connector is properly seated in the slot underneath
(slots usually have a locking mechanism which is released by moving the
plastic ends towards the cable).

Earlier on it was doing even odder things, particularly when I pressed
G.

I've checked the A-V NG and can't see any obvious explanation. It's
driving me mad, though... I've re-booted, switched off and waited 5
minutes, sacrificed a gnome and crossed the palm of a chicken with
silver....

Hmmm

Dominic suggested swapping keyboards. I wasn't sufficiently orientated
to swap keyboards at this time on Fridya night, but I've borrowed a
mouse and that seems to have cured the problem. My own keyboard and
mouse are wireless (new batteries to both, though).

Doesn't work, but many thanks for the suggestion :-(

I can't u/stand it :-( One minute it was fine; the next, it was
chaos...

The defining feature at the moment is that 'delete' doesnt work but
'backspace' does. Any ideas?

Anyway, it was most peculiar. When I went to bed the delete key still
wasn't working, but it's working this morning.

between the receiver and kb without obstructions and the lenses on both
ends might want a clean.

If radio have you introduced any new electronic gizmos to the area? If
so try switching them off / unplugging them.

If you turn off number lock does the . / Del key work? If it does it may
be a problem with the main Delete key rather than the link or PC.

Otherwise bin it!

that some moisture had got in and hootered it up. This may or
may not help.

I had exactly the same problem over the summer. I assumed my keyboard
was knackered, got through the rest of the evening using the windows
keyboard application thingy (just uses the mouse), intending to get a
new keyboard when I got back from hol, at which point everything was
working again.
I did a google and got a few hints that there might be a glitch in XP,
but I've just looked again and can't find the reference.
