  1. Mcewen was "aggressive" in the final sprint as he attempted a head block
    O'Grady,
but it looked a bit like Mcewen made the inital nudge with his left
    shoulder?
Didn't matter much except for bragging rights for 3rd place.

Points. That's what it's all about.

Problem is, the little [censored] does this frequently, like against Baden
    Cooke in 2003 final stage.

Risk a crash at the front over a hand full of points? Why don't they
chuck him for this stuff, it's not like it's the first time anymore.

McEwen was relegated to last place by the judges for his behavior, with
O'Grady given third place for the stage.

  4. yep, he paid for that aggression.

He's the new Tommy Steels. I predict more incidents including at least one
water bottle projectile and one more relegation. I like him but he'll be
groveling for Boonen's crumbs if he's there at all.

It's not just about points. It's about respect, too. You can't give
up positions as a sprinter, even if you are only sprinting for third
place, because if you do it today, you'll have to do it again tomorrow
when you might be sprinting for the win. Your opponents have to know
that you will not back down. You want it so that they don't even
bother trying to move you - you want then to give up when they see it
is you in the spot they want to be in. The importance of this cannot
be stressed enough when sprinters are racing against each other day in
    and day out.

McEwen is a physical sprinter but not as bad as folks on here suggest.

Yeah, O'Grady was the one trying to take Boonen's wheel. McEwen
    reacted:

July 5, 2005: An action packed day

    By Stuart O'Grady

Stage 3 certainly was an action packed day. Everything was going to
plan until the final moments. Hushovd went early and I got his wheel
and I went for it about 150 out. I was feeling good and then I felt
Boonen coming past. I moved onto his wheel and the next thing I've got
    McEwen's head in my face

_ It took me about 10 times watching it, but if you watch the
head on shot early enough, it seems pretty clear that O'grady
actually bumped McEwean first. Nothing but a stiff elbow and
probably would never get the referee's attention. McEwean claims
that he was just trying to avoid crashing, but it could be a
classic case of the guy that responds gets the penalty, not the
guy that started it. To me it kind of looks like he just lost
his temper and attempted to butt back.

After about 5 times I saw it too. O'Grady mildy pushed Robbie.
I still blame O'Grady just 1% with 99% blame on McEwen.

McEwen was easily in the wrong. ESPECIALLY after the SECOND head butt.

He's worse. He has been doing this for as long as he has raced in Europe.
And Graham Brown was the only one that gave him back as good as he got and
MacEwen cried like a baby about it.

  11. O'Grady boxed in McEwen who then tried to move over. O'Grady kept
control of his space as he had every right to and McEwen tried to force
    the issue.

All's well that end's well. We need Grahame Brown over here again to
give McEwen back his own act.

Boonen is going to have to figure what he wants to win. I remember all
the conversation here about whether he was the real thing. I guess
that's pretty well settled now. Getting out of Postal was the best move
he could've made, but I'm not sure he can keep winning spring classics,
and later sprint stages, but he just might be that damn good.
Gonna be a lot of fun to watch.

Not to put too fine a point on it but he's already demonstrated that he can
win anything short of the big mountains and 20:1 he pulls an Indurain next
    year.

  14. No he's not. Steels was pure speed. Boonen is pure power.

Jesus Christ, you've got your head up your ass.

His muscle makeup is predominantly fast twitch - he'll never be a GC
    contender.

    thanks,

Indeed. LBL will be his limit, but he should be able of winning it
some day, given the fact that he takes the RVV climbs with a rather
a-typical light gear (in comparison with Museeuw, Van Petegem, Tchmil,
    Ballerini, Tafi, Klier, ...).

  18. Are you predicting he will turn into an anonymous domestique for a few
years, or that he will win the TdF?

    Frankly, both are absurd.

And yet that was EXACTLY what they said about Indurain and Armstrong.

  20. speaking of dumbasses w/ their heads firmly up their backsides,

Boonen's muscle makeup isn't predominantly fast twitch, no one's is.
He may have more fast twitch than most, but he's not predominantly fast
twitch. He'd never make to the finish line of any race longer than a 5
lap scratch race if he were.

that said, you're right, he won't be a GC contender.
