NYC marathon

Looks like the second half was pretty nasty. Of the top 300 runners,
some had as much as 20 minute positive splits, with only 6 runners
turning in negative splits!

Donovan's 4 minute positive is pretty impressive, given the apparent
conditions, on a maiden marathon too. Nice work, I think.

Parker's finally home in 4:05:51 - you had me on the edge of my seat for

Yep. Congrats to all how took part today. What I want to know is how both
Lance and Donovan managed to get within seconds of the start line before they dropped out. Donovan
11 seconds and Lance only 6 seconds! Even Parker managed 53 seconds before he died.

Getting to the start line at all was difficult. NYRRC messed up and didn't
print my bus pass. Fortunately, one of my teammates helped me out, he had a
car service arranged.

Regarding my start, they have a special "team start" for people in the local
running clubs. We get to start right at the front if we meet certain
performance standards (1:25 half for open men). I think Lance uses his bulk to
push the other guys out the way.

It was warm. Weather forecast said it would be cool, but I saw one of those
roadside temperature things that said 67. There were people walking in the
last 6 miles. I was running fine up to mile 20 -- all of those 4 minutes
positive were in the last 6.2 miles. I was feeling very good for the first 18
miles. This race really creeps up on you, especially when it's warm.

Like you say, a lot of good runners were having a hard time today.

Thanks, Mel and others! The conditions were a bit tough out there -- I
was 14 minutes positive; I could feel it getting difficult on the great
First Avenue ascent in miles 17-18, and by mile 22 I was slower than
training pace. s'OK, I had an aggressive goal and pushed hard to get
it, hoping my months of training in the Texas summer would help me
handle the heat; these things happen.

Congrats to Donovan, Lance and Parker! DR, I looked for the team in
yellow in the finish area, but you guys had probably already finished
by the time I staggered in.

With luck I'll get a full report up in the next day or two.

congrad all. rad cliff looking hot as always.
was short, start of race for women front leaders, then whole group and
bridge, too leaders men .then a coarse out line..and then the finish
here too.and then too the car race.and hour past the normal time this
race here was........buds win and bud wiser crash at last 3 laps.... I
see miller lite was in top 8 ether show or talk of too.
for what it's worst,I sill have my bottle cap....from miller lite.....25

Great race, Donovan!

Like they say - the marathon doesn't begin until mile 20. My wife
didn't quite appreciate that either, until last year.

Hi, yes it was tough out there. We had 5 people on our team under 3 hours,
and one just over. All our sub 3hr men were 1:19 half marathoners or faster,
the women were 1:21 half marathoners or faster. Only one of the guys over 1:20
came anywhere near 3hrs.

My team was there for a while in the reunion area, but it wasn't that easy to
find people. Anyway, look forward to reading the report.
