I'm doing a ride from Philadelphia to Quebec and back and intend, in one direction or the other, to go through New York City. I have an Adventure Cycling route from Phila. to the Staten Island Ferry, and on a past visit, have biked the Hudson River trails and roads as far as the George Washington bridge. What I need is route advice from the GW bridge through the Bronx and Westchester and SW Connecticut. I have biked through many other cities and am not afraid to take arterial streets, if and as the occasion demands. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Also, coming into Staten Island, the Adventure Cycling information says that the Goethals bridge may or may not be open for bicycles at any give time. Any information about that?

There are plent of safe places to ride in the Bronx. I rode down last year and am doing it again from MA. Look into the Bx. River Paths from P. Parkway to 233rd, the Moshulu greenway and the paths along pelham pkway out to o. Beach/ City island

Another ride like the ones through New York using a route generated using my computer mapping programs. I have answered the question of why not Radoneering, before. My answer is that the ride may take more than 40 hours as it did last year, 48 hours. Second I ride from my front door and back to my front door. And third it allow me to play with my GPS and Delorme route making maps.

That is very true. The only parts of the Bronx I've seen are what I can see from the Cross-Bronx expressway.

Well, there is a big selection effect there: any street next to the Cross-Bronx is going to be less desirable to live on.
A friend of mine used to live in the last house on a dead-end street that had been cut in half when they put the BQE through. It was pretty loud esp. with the windows open. Rent was cheaper though. Kind of like the scene in Annie Hall where Woody Allen's childhood home is under the Coney Island roller coaster.

My 71st birthday ride cue uses the signed Delaware bicycle route to go which brings you to Chadds Ford PA. http://www.billcotton.com/delaware1.htm The return of that cue a excel file on this page http://www.billcotton.com/71st_birthday_ride.htm pases Lewis DE and follow the coast with a flat ride through Willington DE and Chester PA. Enter Philly at the Airport and to center city. The EastCoast Greenway offical route http://www.greenway.org/ uses this same cue. I help the team that gave this route to them. However, readng my narritive about my 71 birthday ride you will see that we encounterd a group of thugs. We were on one of the widest street in Chester and I don't thing that it ever happen before. We were riding at 2 am on a Saturday night.
