  1. On this particular day, Pound, who is 64, looked tired. His broad face was drawn, his complexion pasty. He had just returned from China, and his back hurt. Thinking about Landis seemed to enliven him. He spoke of the cyclist as if he were some sleazy perp just collared by the vice squad. “He was 11 minutes behind or something, and all of the sudden there’s this Herculean effort, where he’s going up mountains like he’s on a goddamn Harley,” he said. In the 2006 tour, Landis raced in pain while awaiting a hip replacement, went out to an early lead, lost it, then seemed to miraculously regain it. “It’s a great story,” Pound said. “Wonderful. But if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

Pound took something like a schoolboy’s delight in talking about Landis’s lab result, which supposedly showed his testosterone level to be grotesquely above what is typical for most men. Landis has denied taking a prohibited substance and is fighting what could be a two-year ban from cycling.

“I mean, it was 11 to 1!” Pound said, referring to Landis’s reported testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio, a measure used to identify doping. “You’d think he’d be violating every virgin within 100 miles. How does he even get on his bicycle?”

Those statements are a joke. How can you take a guy seriously when he talks like that?

WBT ..... You left the part out about [censored] Pound stating it was OK to lie about things....... After I read the entire interview I knew then that he had to go.......

******* me bad......I didn't see that you linked the interview.

  5. [censored] Pound is the very embodiment of the saying "There are none so blind as those who will not see." And my guess is that's just the way he likes it. The last thing that this guy is interested in hearing from anybody are the words due process.

That's a real shame because that aspect of what WADA can bring to the table is completely lost on Pound, when it could in fact be his strongest weapon. It says a lot to me that he has chosen so clearly to go the other way.

Once I took a look at the WADA financials, I started to understand a lot more about how far 'fast and loose' goes with his organization. It always says a lot to me when I see an organization that is built around other people's money to be so structured.

Pound is a power-hungry, money-grubbing pig. His actions are designed with only one thing in mind, and that is in making WADA (and [censored] Pound) the be-all, end-all, of who can or can't compete at all levels of sport. He wants to be the "toll-booth" guard, extorting all international sports agencies to pay his ransom. I still remember how that arrogant, elitist and his foul-mouthed wife, cursed the Atlanta police during the 1996 Olympics because she refused to obey the traffic laws. What pigs!

He knows where the money is and who controls it and FIFA, UCI, IAAF and all the other major sanctioning organizations are in his sites.

  7. ....then again he could just be doing his job ? 200 blood bags suggest our poorly treated athletes are "power-hungry, money-grubbing pigs whose actions are designed with one thing in mind... that they are the be all and end all of their sports"........ think about what he's working against... what would you do ? Write a letter to the UCI ! LOL ! :p

That blood was collected as a donation to the Home for Orphaned Vampires.

Thanks for the link for the [censored] Pound interview - very good read.

The US athletics doping stuff is topical - but Dr Wade Exum told the world about US track and field doping years ago.
As for the doping in cycling - that has been uncovered and confirmed by other sources like Manzano etc.

By all means cycling and other sports have serious doping and credibility problems. The problem with folks like Pound is they do not represent the sport or the best interest of the sport, only in creating an environment in which the money men feel their "investment" is being protected and he wants to be set up as that final arbiter of what is right and wrong. The IOC is the ultimate in elitism and he created the modern day money machine they have become and their is no doubt he understands how much it is "worth" to sponsors to have WADA-Good Housekeeping seal of approval and he wants to control that process.

WADA's job is to lay the foundation for promoting, coordinating and monitoring the fight against doping in sport. (from their website). By saying these things, Pound sounds more like Jerry Springer, rather than the head of an independent organisation funded by governments and sports movements globally. It's not his place to make these judgments...he gives ammunition to defense lawyers, anti-WADA factions and the media. Read the quotes again, and tell me that this is the language of someone who should be leading the world's charge against doping. 😕 I think not.

I only need to read the quotes of our athletes who deny that they ever doped when they are seen leaving the very practise where 200 bags of blood and a cache load of EPO were found...... again Pound has to rant... what would you do ? Watch all this go by ? or maybe you're happy to pretend what really goes on doesn't go on ? scoreboard ! 11 to 1 !

There is no room left in cycling for truth. [censored] Pound can take his and stick it. All we need to do is wait a year or so and all the nasty allegations and innuendo will be forgotten. We did without truth in 1998 and it worked out nicely in the end...er, hang on

  14. But has Pounded [censored] been effective? If his job is to ensure a clean sport for sponsors, he has really failed. His tactics have done nothing but put the focus of doping in the news daily. He has not accomplished anything in the prevention department .

[font=Verdana]Look what he's up against ? Federations who blatantly don't care about doping, pretend its not happening and lie directly to him….. he also has to battle athletes telling the world that the lab and everyone else farked up by putting together presentation and taking full page advertisements in papers... [/font]

[font=Verdana]So just to get this right ? Landis can speak to the media and tell them what he wants but Pound can’t ? Come on ??!!!! You’re joking right ? He has to stamp his fists to get attention..... what do you want to him to do ? Write a letter to the UCI ? Write a letter to Floyd Landis ? Wait for the appeal in Feb ? No... Landis was 11 to 1 ! Didn't you guys read about Puerto in the papers ? [/font]

Pound didn't put doping into the papers... Landis did....

He hasn't failed, he's barely gotten started..."oh Mr. Coca Cola, Mr. Visa, look how much money I made you with the Olympics, if only you would convince these sports governing bodies to let ME be the watchdog to ensure you're getting a clean product to promote.." and in the meantime...."oh Mr. UCI, Mr. FIFA, if you don't want the sponsor dollars to dry up, after all look how much I made the IOC, then you better let ME be the watchdog to ensure you have a clean product to sell.."

I'll never, ever understand why so many people direct their vitriol and derision for [censored] Pound when it's the doping riders that fans of the sport should be [censored] at. They are the ones who give cycling a black eye; they are the ones who make a mockery of the sport, and fools of its fans (yet many of those same fans are perfectly willing to allow themselves to be manipulated by riders - Hamilton and Landis are perfect examples - who have been shown to be cheats).

It's not [censored] Pound's fault. It's not Pat McQuaid. It's not the WADA, USADA, CSA, or even ultimately the UCI. It's the riders and the team managers etc who tolerate and promote doping in the peloton. Those are the folks who should really [censored] you off.

Because its much easier to blame 'the man' especially when he has a big mouth and uses un-PC language than to take a good look at your idols. Some fans aspire to be like these riders (or the spin/perception of what these riders are) and will not admit that they are human, have frailties and yes might cheat like all the others. For some reason, it is seen as a reflection of their own morality.

  19. whiteboytrash said:

I don't have to come up with a solution...that's why they pay him the big bucks! I know what's not appropriate though.

  20. Sorry...... But the riders are not to blame. Doping has been allowed for many years in the sport, almost openly. Doping is not illegal in the sport. It is only illegal if you get caught. Or...if the sport wants you to be guilty. Big difference. Doping is a part of the sport. Is now, and has been for many years... If you are a pro rider and enter the sport, you know you will have to dope to get to the top. It is just understood to be that way by the UCI, the fans, and the riders.....
Ever notice the only riders to speak out are the ones caught??? They only speak out to gather the fans support.
Maybe it's not the way it is supposed to be, but it is the way it is.

Look at TM...... They seemed to have been headed in the right direction........ Great doping program...... Throw the 2nd best rider in the sport off the team...Then , 6 months later, try and hire a guy who's name , not codename is linked to Mr Fuentes directly. And yes, they wanted him. He rejected them , not the other way around.

Is Pounding [censored] doing the correct thing as a professional should? I don't think so. He seems to think that he is allowed to distort things.
