Follow your surgeon's advice.
Jeff
Tons of vitamin C. Take a 1000 mgs every couple of hours until healed.
It has been shown to reduce recovery times by up to half. It is water
soluble so there are no toxicity issues whatsoever.

Oh yeah, and you may want to eat collagen rich foods. Your ligaments,
tendons and the material in and around your joints are mostly collagen.
Rich chicken soup from scratch is a great source of collagen. For an
extra kick of collagen add a couple of chickens feet. Also oxtail soup
is good. Head cheese too.

LOL. Prepare to spend your entire shoulder recovery period sitting on
the toilet, if you follow this advice. I suppose you could always put
pulleys and things in your bathroom....

That much ascorbic acid should not be even close to the bowel tolerance
limit. If it is, and diarhea does result, then cut back to every three
hours or use calcium ascorbate which is buffered and easier on the
stomach.
But most people can easily tolerate that much.

I certainly can! Just as an experiment, I've on a handful of occasions had
as much as *16g* of Vit C in a 24-hour period, and not had the slightest
problem. (Usually my supplementation varies rather irregularly between 500mg
and 4g/5g...).

Eating any particular protein in order to fix the same kind of protein,
is not one of the smartest ideas I've ever seen here on
sci.med.nutrition. Reminds me of ceremonial representational magic. It
has to be magic, or else you'd be recommending cheap Jello instead of
hard to find oxtail.

PS. Before you come twittering up with the idea, the human diet is not
short of glycine. Glycine is very common.

I did 16 to 20 grams per day for four days. No problem. The results
were striking. I would recommend it for every one.

Don't tell me what you've read in a book. TRY it yourself. Any reader
who wants to decide whether TC and Linus Pauling are full of baloney,
or Steve Harris is, are *welcome* to take 1 gram of vitamin C every
couple of hours for a few days when awake. Do get back to us here with
your experimental results.

I've done 16 to 20 grams per day for four days. The results were well
worth it.

I tried the ascobate flush once upon a time. I got up to about 10,000 mg of
calc, mag and pot? ascorbate. Now I can't tolerate more than about 200mg of
the stuff without instant diarhea.

Your problem is probably IBS or the beginnings of chrohn's or a similar
disease. I'll bet that you eat a high grain diet.

*PLEASE* put your comments in line rather than at the top of your posts. It
makes the conversation much easier to follow.
IT should take a while for the diarrhea to develop, at least a few 2 or 3
hours. If it is truly instant, I suspect that it is psychosomatic. Look on
the bright side: if you ever get constipated, you know how to solve it.

Just as a side note. Did it cure anything by anyone's definition?

Katt.

Actually it did. And I wasn't expecting it. I've had problems with
anxiety for years. It is often referred to as dysthymia. When I went on
low-carb and B vitamin supplementation it improved significantly. When
I went on the four day mega-vitamin C regimen, about two months ago, it
dissappeared completely.
I was just looking for its anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal
properties and to strengthen my immune system.
I hadn't told my wife what I was doing with the vit C and within a
couple of days she noticed the change in my moods. Really surprised the
both of us.

The same way it always has, by eating a diet rich in collagenic foods
and getting adequate vitamins for your body to assimilate it.

Oxtail is easy to find, it's cheap and oh so damned good. Oh yeah, and
it is very healthy.

We need all kinds of proteins, fats, enzymes, vitamins and minerals and
the best sources are from animals. Collagen, glycine and vitamin C
being only a small fraction of what is optimum. Getting these nutrients
from fresh healthy well-fed animals by eating them is the way we've
gotten this nutrition for millions of years. You want to argue with the
reality of the world we live in, knock yourself out.
Would you recommend that he gets his collagen from a hypodermic needle?
That is what many doctors do at $1000 a pop.

How would you know, seeing as how you know nothing about nutrition at
all? What collagenic foods is the ox eating to make its tail in the
first place?

Yep. Magic. Just one of Seigfried and Roy's amazing acts! 🙂 But
don't try this one at home. Remember the Lady from Niger.
