cheap).Riding clipless pedals with street shoes could be a problem.

Still, I bet that bike shop could have adjusted your seat and hooked you
up with a cheapo set of OEM pedals for well under 20 bux. If you REALLY
wanted to ride, you'd probably be riding. 😉

Didn't buy it from a shop. I did find a LBS in the Gaslamp district.
So I bought a multitool, but the tube is now flat. The did tell me how
to get to mission trails from my hotel. It's a trolly ride to a three
mile road ride to the trailhead. I will attempt that tomorrow
afternoon. It all depends on what kind of a three mile road ride it is.
If it's a hill, I'm cooked on the SS.

Yes, I know it's a [censored] and fail. But, it's a singlespeed (don't go ape
shiat yet, Mr. Wheeler). It was used and cheap and the local guy was kind
enough to deliver it to my hotel. Pay no attention to that rigid fork.
A marathon SL is replacing it when I get home. Since this is my first
shot at SS'ing, I didn't want to break the bank. If I don't like it, then
it's not a huge loss.

Well, It wont be singletrack. But if you head toward the bay and hang a
right on the path. It will take you all the way to point loma. Head over
the hill into Ocean Beach. Good people watching opps. Plus you get to see
the Old RTC/NTC. Take a pedal past the old parade field. It is a nice ride
really. Just not dirt.

Bike Tours) hooked me up with enough to get me on the road tonight.
First time on an SS and I have to say it's a little wierd. I easily
topped out the spin. Is that supposed to happen? Do I need a different
ration, or will hill climbs be way too hard. It's at 16-34 right now.

Geesh, don't claim defeat before you even get started. That SS will make
(or break)you. And if you really want to learn to handle a bike, forget the
front shock and ride it rigid.....and it will really make you appreciate the
FS for those moments where you really need the FS......

I hope the trail looks more user friendly than the pix of the urban uckypay.

Dude, you'll be hiking PLENTY out at Mission Trails with that ratio! There
are lots of steep (but short) climbs; most SS-ers use 2:1 or even at bit
lower (? -- like 34-18) around here. (Not me; I'm Granny City.)

How long will you be in town? I'm pretty booked all week, but if I can
shake loose and join you for something I will.

You might also check out Balboa Park (near the zoo). There are some fun
little "loopy" trails around there; with plenty of degenerates to bunny hop,
too.

Glad you're catching some nice SD weather, at least -- most of the local
trails are pretty torn up and/or messy after a LOT of rain last few weeks.
(Be sure to tip your maid ;-)

I am here until Sunday but I have to work from 7:30 to 5 except

the snow will be gone when you return,day time temps help.

Buy a set of those platforms that click into clipless.
So one side is cleat and other side platform. Some LBS use them so test
rides can be taken in pain shoes (street shoes).

You shouldn't have to buy them. Some LBS' keep boxes of those, I've been
given them.
