Sorry, you must be confusing the UK with somewhere that has decent
public transport. :-(

I think if I was going to do it I'd use the A6005. I've done the
Sustrans route and it's a pleasant enough leisure ride but there's no
way you could do it in a hour.

There's a National Express coach Nottingham to Sheffield at 3 in the morning
if you want to stay a bit longer.

Does anyone on the group do Nottingham - Derby or v.v. on a
regulart basis? I want to go to a gig in Nottingham, and due to
the crapness of rail services in the Midlands there is no late
train back to Sheffield - however there is one from Derby at
midnight, so I'm just wondering whether it would be possible to do
the trip in an hour at night. All advice welcomed.

Some parts of the A52 have just been re-surfaced and are hard, flat and
fast. It is possible to do Derby in an hour but on the fast parts you
need to be doing 23/25+ mph. The slowest parts are; from Nottingham to
Bramcote and the last couple of miles to Derby Station.

Also it depends upon how much you let multi-lane traffic inhibit
you................. And if there is a strong oncoming wind on the
night!

You could also go out near your home and see if you can DO 16/18 miles
in an hour before taking your bike to Nottingham.

I don't want to be thought overcautious, but if you are planning to
cycle along the A52 for this whole route at 11pmish in January you must
be barmy or badly advised.Don't bother with the helmet unless you keep
your next of kin label in it.

The A52 is fast and I would have thought that you could do it in under
an hour. It is a dual carriage way that is treated like a motorway, I
have cycled it at 7am and would not do it again! The back roads through
Borrowash and the like are better but slower and you would be pushing
it.

The best bet is likely to be Trent buses who run quite a fast regular
service until the early hours, presumably they have a website. The
express buses tend to terminate at the bus station though, which is a
mile or so from the train station.

there is a rainbow 4 trent bus that gets you from Nottingham bus
station to derby for 11 25 if it is on time, but it takes an hour, so
you will still have to leave your concert early to get to the bus.

Thanks for all the responses. Looks like I (or a friend) will be driving to
Phoenix Park , getting the NET (tram)in, not drinking, (boo) and v.v.(which is
what we always seem to end up doing when going to Nottingham)
