He's obviously never climbed Mt. Ventoux. He probably thinks that
football or baseball is a sport. What do they do? Throw a ball
around for an hour. With a break halfway. No hand-eye coordination?
Try cornering at 40 mph. Or avoiding the guy right in front of you
who crashes.

However, that being said, I agree with most any other of the sports.

I had always been under the impression that a "Phred" was someone with money

Actually, "Fred" is the term used to describe clueless newbies, geeks,
losers, poseurs, etc., the roadie equivalent of a "Barney" in mt.
biking (Fred / Barney: get it?). Included would be anybody who
actually believes that "Fred" means guys who don't shave their legs,
which is irrelevant, false and totally lame.

Ummm...

The author hasn't actually claimed cycling isn't a sport, rather they
have claimed cyclists are not athletes.

As athletes compete in athletics (defined as a collection of running,
throwing and jumping sports based on the ancient Greek competitive
traditions), the claim that cyclists, are not athletes seems blindingly
obvious to me.

Strange they should state cycling doesn't require hand and eye co
ordination though.
