I noticed that there was absolutely no coverage of the Tour de France on the weekend network sports shows. (At least, not in the northeast US.) In fact, a rather morbid coverage of the British Open ended with dedications from Tiger and Chris about the recent death of their elders, after an absolutely scintillating coverage of... links golf. No time at all for the eighth consecutive US victory in the Tour de France. I mean, who'd want to see that?
Seriously, that was just perverse. It looked perverse even if you're one of the thirty people in the US who like golf.

I hope they do better than last years recaps...I was often wondering which TdF they were covering, because they one I watche daily on OLN sure seemed a lot different than the shorted one they were trying to present....

You hardly hear much about hockey anymore, either. World Series of Poker is where it's at, man!
I, for one, am happy that CBS didn't get primary coverage on Sundays as they did in the past. It seemed that they were more interested in making a tourist video than covering a sporting event.
Now, if NBC were covering it, we'd have to sit through hours of heartfelt docu-drama of how this or that competitor had a close friend/relative/father/mother/dog/cat/ferret that died of cancer and they struggled to overcome this horror to become the tops in their field. GAK!

I watched it today. (I don't have cable this year and haven't seen the OLN TV coverage other than online video highlights.) The obtrusive music in the CBS segment was indeed awful. And there's no way they can give a sense of the racing in the tiny little snippets of footage they show. However, credit where credit is due, it was miles better than the horrible CBS Sunday coverage from just a couple of years ago. Even the extraneous featurette segment was on the fan scene on Alpe d'Huez, rather than the usual pseudo-tourist-guide beret-wine-cheese-baguette story. I wouldn't say they are quite getting it yet, but they are moving further away from not-getting-it.

What I couldn't believe was the promo at the end of the show. It was for next week's show "On Winning" featuring some golfer and some football player. All you need to know about what it takes to be a winner is to watch and listen to Floyd. The promo was really in bad taste, IMHO.

That is great to hear. Maybe cycling has a future with mainstream Americans.
