  1. Hi

I swim twice a week each about an hour. Now and then a few
    hours later I've a nosebleed.

    Is this a known phenomenon?

Do you suffer from sinus problems? You probably want to see
a doctor under any circumstances (bleeding in the head is
always a bad thing), but barring any other symptoms, you
might just have a badly irritated sinus

Most Nose bleeds are heriditary. Does your mum or dad have
    a history?

  4. The original poster needs to see a doctor just to be sure
that he does not have a serious problem.

Nosebleeds can occasionally be a sign of serious disease.
    How high is blood pressure?

Most commonly, of course, they are not serious.

Not a recognised 'swimming thing'. Best to get it checked by
your doctor in case it is a symptom of something else e.g.
    high blood pressure.

    Thank you all.

I thougt it could be a 'swimming thing', perhaps the chlorin
will soften the mucous membrane or the blood vessel. The
nosebleed happens weekly or biweekly once. The source is a
blood vessel near the nostril not the sinus.

    I'm swimming and/or jogging since 1975 regular ->not a
candidate for high blood pressure. :-) My BMI is 20.

  7. Have you had it checked? BP, like cholesterol, sometimes
does not behave as expected. Some people look like fat slobs
and have cholesterol of 90 and low normal blood pressure,
and some atheletes the opposite. Madelaine

But have you measured it recently? It sounds like you might
be underweight. You said you only swim twice a week. Is that
in place of running or in addition to running? When you swim
or run, how higha pulse rate do you maintain? What is your
diet like and what is your daily stress level like? Just
because you have been running or swimming twice a week for a
long time doesn't mean you don't have high blood pressure,
but I would be more inclined to suspect a vitamin deficiency
than high blood pressure. Still, I don't know, and it
doesn't sound like a swimming thing.

No. Measuring of BP is like do Lotto.

Yes, but according to american standard. :-)

    Current in addition.

I don't know. So that I'm pleased about the physical

I'm sorry. How will you know whether you have high blood

I was going by the same BMI measurment system you referred
to. To get my BMI down to 20, I would be pretty severly
underweight by any standard, so I'm thinking you are
underweight by whatever standard you want to use.

So you don't have the same problem a couple hours

You might want to do some of these measurements. They are
useful in determining how hard your body is working. Taking
your pulse is a pretty standard measurement of effort.

    Quoted message said:

What is your diet like and what is your daily stress

    No diet, no stress.

That isn't a realistic statement. No diet means no food. No
    stress means no life.

No, BP usually drops during exercise. If you were going to
die, you would die later, I think.

So far you have rejected all explanations without even
testing them. You might have a deficiency. Given you are
underweight, I think the likliehood is higher than normal.

There are a lot od misconceptions about High Blood Pressure.

I train at least 4 time a week (swimming, running, cycling),
I have a good diet, I'm not overweight, I have normal
cholesterol, low pulse rate... and I have High Blood
    Pressure. Must be the gene.

I would never had believe it before it was tested. I could
do high intense workouts without any problem. According to
the doctor, the only inconvenience is the risk to die or get
paralysed at age 50 or 60. Some have nosebleeds.

The only way for me to get rid of it is to go live for a
few months on some tropical island... or to swallow my
    daily pill.

Check your blood pressure! (if values are bit high, you have
to measure it during 24h with a special portable device).

If your BP is OK, do you sometime suffer from rhinitis?

Thank you for your report. I'll check my BP on
occasion. No rhinitis. Possibly a delicate blood
    vessel?! What's your BMI?
