Check out the Lewis-Morris trail just outside of Morristown, NJ. It's a
great ride for beginners. More info and local clubs can be found on the
JORBA (Jersey Off Road Bicycling Association) website at www.jorba.org.

I assume you took either the Cannonball or the Yellow Trail back up? You
can take the paved road back up to the lot, its still the same elevation
but easier than the trail...

I gone riding in the area. I separated myself from my bike (and some
skin) on a steep boulder field downhill. It hurt.
There's Ringwood up by 17. Probably your best bet.
Most places I know are in central NJ. If you find yourself in New
Brunswick, go to the Rutgers U Livingston Preserve. It's nice and
twisty, rolling and small. There's also White Rock out on... 22? 207?
You can probably google info on it. Round Valley, out in Clinton, has
lots of climbing but is relatively low on technical stuff for most of
the way. It'll get you in shape.

Yep, I took the paved road back up. I noticed that there are different
colored trails, what do the color codes mean? I tried searching on
Google but no luck.

By the way can I park in the lot down the hill where Skyline Drive
begins and bike through those trials?

The colors are the trail markers and are shown on the NYNJ Trail
Conference Map, all the trails are clearly shown - any LBS will have one.

Don't park at the bottom lot, that is the hikers lot, the top lot is
where all the mountain bikers park...
