  1. Giving up alchohol for a New Year's resolution. When I'm out at the
bars, what can I drink that's low carb (besides water)? Any
    suggestions? Thanks.

  2. Good thing I'm giving it up too - I can't even spell it! LOL

Diet soda or club soda. With a twist, if you like.

Seltzer with lemon or lime, diet soda, tomato juice (just nurse it a
    long time).

  6. If I recall, when I looked into the subject of diet sodas a year ago,
the only diet soda that had splenda was diet rite; and unfortunately
not alot of bars/restaurants have it. The other mainstream diet sodas
(diet coke, diet pepsi, etc.) all had one thing or another wrong with
    them (asparatame, etc.)
Looks like it's club soda with a twist unless any other suggestions
    come in. Thanks.

There's also waist watchers and jones, but you can't get these in a bar.
Jones is truly great but expensive. Jones is at Target, and Waist Watchers
is at Stop and Shop and other locations.

The sweetener issues are subjective (IOW Splenda isn't the best for
everyone), but all no-sugar diet sodas can be considered low-carb.

I personally find diet soda increases my craving for sweet and starchy
foods, and I don't even really like the taste--no matter what sweetener is
used. But others don't have that problem and are able to incorporate diet
soda (including Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and other non-Splenda ones) into
successful low-carb weight loss and maintenance.

    ISLAND Iced Tea :-)

And it doesn't hurt to clarify that you want an unsweetened tea. I've had
them bring me sweetened ice tea.

Just for your info, Diet Big Red, Diet RC Cola, 7up Plus, and Diet Shasta
also use Splenda. Only 7up, and certain Shasta's are caffeine free though.

    Why are you discounting water?

When I first started Atkins, I gave up alcohol and all other beverages
completely. The initial two week induction lasted more like two months. I
went to bars and drank bottled water.

It wasn't that hard, once you start doing it.

  13. I will go for club soda, and past induction a glass of dry wine. Can you get
diet tonic at a bar? I haven't tried it yet, but a gin and tonic would be
nice, or a rum and diet coke, but these will have aspartame in it.

    how about an Irish coffee?
