I put Nokian 2.6 Gazz Jr.'s on my Trek Liquid 25....While
they are heavier than normal mtn bike tires by a wide
margin, they don't feel much heavier at all to me, and for
turns in loose soil and sand, they corner like you are on
rails. Over roots they soak up so much I could "almost" give
up suspension. Almost.. The Nokians have a stiffer sidewall,
and huge cornering/side lugs which really prevent sliding.

I put Nokian 2.6 Gazz Jr.'s on my Trek Liquid 25....

Try asking Shaun about the Gazzalodis. I think that he's
running them at the moment. I'm running the 2.1 UST NBX's at
the moment. To be perfectly honest I'm not overly impressed
with them on anything but smooth dry hardpack, clay or rock.
They grip like suction cups on the tarmac. They grip very
nicely in those conditions. I've found that they get twitchy
on anything loose and they are not good in the damp or wet
and slippery stuff like grass, damp stones, or leaves. The
tread pattern doesn't appear to be very aggressive so that's
to be expected. Your conditions may vary.

I've run both the Gazz 2.3's and 2.6's (latter currently,
and for the foreseeable future), and have become rather
fanatical about them. No other tyre of their size has come
close in traction performance and overall toughness. The
2.6's are damned heavy, mind, and the 2.3's a little more so
than their contemporaries, for the most part. If these are
anything to go by, then the 2.1's are going to be the
shiznit, as they say.

I'd go as far as to state, it is a fact, they are the best
damned 2.6 aggressive tyres on the market, by a wide margin.

The 2.3's don't have as thick a sidewall as the 2.6's
though, by quite a bit - they're not quite just a smaller
version. can't be run at silly stupid low pressures like the
2.6's (heh, like down to 14-ish psi!).

I believe they're intended for the conditions you state they
work well in. For loose, wet, slippy and rough, go
Gazzaloddi - it's what they excel at.

Even though the 2.6's are Downhill tires, I am finding that
they allow me to outride most of my friends on twisty XC
trails, by allowing me to come into turns MUCH faster than I
could with a normal 2.2 Bontrager/panaracer etc, and then
hold this speed through the turns, coming out with much more
speed and less need for lots of acceleration out of the
turn...the energy saved here, is more than the increase it
takes to get the 2.6's up to speed. In the patches of sugar
sand we get on some trails here in S. Florida, the
2.6 Gazz Jr's allow me to float over the sand as if it was
just dirt, and in a sandy soil area like Florida, this is
worth the price of admission all by itself ! Dan V

Thanks for all the reply's. I ended up doing the deed and
ordering the NBX ind Gaz 2.1's even though Shaun got me
seriously thinkin of the 2.3s. I'll be sure to post my
opinions when they come in and I've had a chance to get
them out on the trails. I just hope the NBXs wont be too
squirly for New England, though it sounds like they might
be. oh well at $22 I have to give them a try, and I can
always ebay 'em.

Er, yeah, that was me. I was in a steep DH rut with a bit of
speed, perfectly happy being there as it was smoother than
what was outside the rut. I brushed up against the side of
it with the front, and the next thing I know, I'm airborne
heading out of the rut. It was a very ungraceful landing.

You gotta ride differently with Gazz's. I tried them again,
and got the hang of it after a while.

You have to really steer with precision, because they
will go where you point, even if you don't expect it.
Once you get the hang of them though, you can drag you
knees in the turns.

Thanks for the warning :-) I'm riding 5 days per week, and
the last thing I would worry about is being smoked by JD on
his lame ss bike. I'm sure our local trails would be too
technically demanding to be fair for him, so I'm not quite
