Noisy ride home

Same thing happened to me after getting my ears syringed, your ears will
soon adjust their attenuation to allow for the increase in noise.

I very rearly wear my hearing aids outside, wind noise alone negates any
gain that they might give. My hearing loss is in the low frequencies
though, so YMMV. Mind you, I don't wear them nearly as much as I should
according to SWMBO 🙂 'sorry dear, you want me to what the lawn' 😄

FWIW
In cold weather I wear a balaclava and the _lack of_ noise from air
rushing past the lugs is wonderful. For those of us who enjoy the
pleasures of the countryside this is a great bonus - but hardly what the
cool cyclist wears in the summer.

Thanks for the replies, I have taken your advice to heart and decided
that not wearing the aids will be the most practical solution. Wind
noise is certainly a problem with them on. I can still hear the traffic
rumbling along behind me just as before so I don't expect any unsettling
moments as traffic suddenly appears beside me.

dirctional hearing. confuses the hell out of me, and if on a bike, I'd
never know where the cars were coming from 🙁

Yes, one of the mechanisms for directional hearing is that the curls of your
ear reflect and amplify different frequencies depending on the direction, so
a general in ear amplification would be quite likely to confuse this system.
