Noisy Open Pro rim

I have the same problem and wasted money initially with new bearings, etc. Although many point to
the welding pin in the rim as the culprit, for me it's creaking eyelets. Lube each eyelet with WD40,
TriFlo, etc., and see what happens. If it's the eyelets, the lube eliminates the problem, but only
for a 100 miles or so. Annoying, but otherwise the rims have been great for me.

Things to try -

Lube all spoke crossings with a drop of oil

Grease the lockring and make the cassette really tight

Lube the nipple eyelets with a drop of oil (if this helps, try using linseed oil since it will
stick better).

In my experience the rim joint is not a very likely source of the noise.

Apparently there is another problem with Open Pro rims besides the clicking from the
eyelets/sockets. We confirmed this the other day with MAVIC. Has anyone ever heard of the rim joint
pins making noise? The fix is to give them a whack with a punch. Haven't tried it yet but a mail
order customer of ours is gonna give it a try.

Plenty if clicking and solutions to solve it: "if you have problems with the "Clicking, it is super
easy to get rid of it. it it the pin that holds the hoop together while the rim is flash welded at
the seam. sometimes, if you ride hard, it can pop loose. it can never come out(unless you destroy
the rim) but heres what you do.

get some shoe goo, or barge cement, take the rim strip off, find the clicking pin by tapping the
sidewall of the rim untill you find
it. take the rims and look for the actual culprit. them pour a little barge cement in the spoke hole
untill it covers the pin. rotate it so the goop covers the whole pin, then let it dry overnight.
you should be good. most likely the pin will be opposite the valve, so theres no reason to
complain about unbalancing the wheel."

No one has mentioned the possibility of the tire!

I had a very similar problem recently and tried all the mentioned solutions. Turned out the tread
had separated from the casing on my relatively new (<200 miles) Avocet FasGrip 700x25 and THAT was
causing the squeaking. I couldn't really tell by looking at the tire that it was bad but did see
small cracks in the tread; looked like ozone degredation but on a new tire?

I'll never buy Avocet tires again. Jobst, you still around?
