How close is close, how far do you want to walk?

The canal near the centre is ok if canal walking is your
thing. There is also Roundhay Park and Temple Newsam. If you
want something wilder without travelling too far then the
Holmfirth area is probably the nearest though I can't give
any advice there, other than look at a map. If your return
journey is to take the M62 west before going south then stop
at J22 of the
M62. There is a radio tower with a parking area near, just
to the south of the motorway, this is where the
Pennine way crosses the M62. It's wild and
open(despite the motorway) in either direction, though
for a first time visit I would suggest walking north
over the M62 to Blackstone Edge.

If you prefer to go south down the M1, then you could come
off at J37 and go to Langsett. There are some paths and
bridleways there.

Bolton Abbey in the Dales, Or Otley Chevin with its
fantastic views. Both less than an hour drive from Elland
Road. Also see holmebank.pwp.blueyonder.co.ukholmebank.pwp.blueyonder.co.ukOpen ↗

These walks are about 50 miles from Elland Road.

Just leave at half time, and look forward to a new team
next season.

Thanks for the replies guy's but I had to come straight back
after all.....been on the road since 7am this morning and
just got back - that was leaving straight after the game so
goodness knows if I could have got a walk in anyway - not
sure what I was thinking. Best I get up to Yorshire when the
footie is not on and take in some of those walks me thinks.

Looking at the water line on some spots I would say it's
lower than it has been but it was ok. People... It was a
Bank Holiday and not raining so take a guess!! :o) On that
point.... I have been reading this newgroup for a just a
short time and can I assume Paul that your ideal number of
people you like to see on your jaunts would be less than two
but preferably less than one! - lol. For peace of mind my
wife always likes me to go on my walks with someone, me I
like a bit of a natter and if I want some quiet I just shut
up! Next weekend I am hoping to have a quick walk through
Clydach Gorge - between Gilwern and Brynmawr. I drive up the
Black rock (Heads of the Valley) road most days and some of
the falls visible from the road have plenty of water coming
from them at the moment so it might be nice. It will be a
short one as I think wifey has some plans for me around the
garden etc.

I have deciced that I am never going to be a photographer so
just take the shots for my own *memories* of the walk. I saw
your picture recently of the Worms head sunset and must say
was blown away by the colours on it - excellent stuff!

The signs make a big fuss about steep slippery slopes and
correct footwear. Many of the paths get wet and muddy and
often stay that way even when the sun comes out. A lot of
deaths are from drowning.

It must have been lower, we haven't had much rain
lately, have we?

Have you seen them at their best? These were taken a few
months ago, just after the rains that caused all the
flooding ended (and these aren't at their highest, the rain
stopped a day before I took these so the level had dropped.

They're not too bad. The first has a reasonable composition,
the second is tilted.

Thanks. Long exposure an hour after sunset. I was surprised
by the results too at the time! The colours are not
artificially enhanced.
