  1. I have found that if I do not eat starches/carbs after 3pm, and only eat plenty of protein eg
meat, fish and veg (negligible carbs), my bsl drops to brilliant figures. I have avoided medication
this way. Any one add to this Michael T2 OZ.

    Hi Michael

First, in answer to your question, I'm the other way 'round - no carbs before 1 pm, then OK till 8
pm then back to no carbs. Incidentally, most here call it BGs.

You will find many of us here on d&e, all in our slightly different ways, as well as many others
    using meds and insulin. YMMV.

Now, something more personal. On this ng we get a little cynical after a while, or maybe it's just
me. Can you clarify for me your posting on a recent spam thread here please? Are you involved in any
way with the OP Michael K from Merlynston on that thread?

If not, my apologies in advance for my evil thoughts.

If you are, and you are also genuinely diabetic, then on the assumption that that's all in the
past I'll still say welcome. I hope you learn what you need to help you here. Just no more spam
    ever please.

Cheers Alan, T2, Oz dx May 2002, diet and exercise.

I rarely eat starches at all but when I do I fare better after late morning. I am very carb
sensitive in the mornings. Can handle more, even a bit of the starches after about 11 am right
through the whole day. My bs's are brilliant after lunches and dinners of just the meat or fish and
salad or cooked low carb veges also. I also have managed to avoid medication, I eat well, I eat lots
    and I don't starve. I am happy 🙂

That might work for you, but it wouldn't work for me. For one thing, I have dawn phenomenon and I
find that I must eat some carbs before bed. I must be careful not to eat too many or my BG will be
too high. But if I eat too little or none at all, my BG will be higher still! I also think I'd be
risking a hypo to not have any carbs with dinner.

BG's to us is a pop group, BS to the Mericans and Canuks is bull dust 🙂 The BS levels can be high
    sometimes, lol.

  6. I'm interested in this morning phenomenon. I have high BG in the morning, it seems to rise from
about 3 am to about 7 am. How does eating carbs before bed help with that?

    Heading nostalgically OT.

I can still remember (tin hat time) sitting on a chair provided by the Radio shop man on the
footpath outside his store in a little country town in NSW, watching these toothy kids from Brisbane
(I think) on Brian Henderson's Bandstand. I think it was about 1961 when TV got to Grafton.

Sad that they raced back overseas as soon as they got famous here, but that was the way with most of
the Oz entertainment industry in those days. Rod, and Errol and Olivia and all...

I can also remember the night the TV in the shop window broke down, and we rang up the owner, at 8
pm, to get down there and fix it pronto. He came :-)

It can keep your body fueled throughout the night and possibly help to prevent your liver from
    dumping glucose in the morning.

Simply eating carbs with many fat cause a temporary insulin resistance That's because fats eaten
with carbohydrates raise post-prandial lipemia When post-prandial lipemia levels are high sugar
can't leave the bloodstream and get into the cells so more insulin is pumped The rule for low
carbohydrates foods (vegetables, greens ...) is to eat them with whatever you like The rule for high
carbohydrates foods (cereals, fruits ...) is to eat them alone or with few fats The rule for fats is
to eat them alone The rule for refined carbohydrates is to eliminate them from the diet

Medical literature has many and many times showed how different combinations of fat, protein and
carbohydrates affect insulin, glucose and lipemia levels Fat delays gastrict emptying and this may
in turn lower the glycemic index, but also raise post-prandial lipemia, post-prandial insulin
secretion and keep BG elevates for prolongued time High-fiber and carbohydrates foods have (mostly)
low GI and low IS so it's not worth risking your health just for lowering a bit an already low
    glycemic response

Keep your fats (polyunsaturated and monounsaturated) and your carbohydrates (high fiber unrefined
    carbs) separated

  10. Would this explain eating nuts before bed? When I do, my FBG is much higher.
