When you do buy that new faucet, considering the circumstances, I
wouldn't buy another Price-Pfister, but I *WOULD* let them know that
Lowes would *NOT* honor the warrantee, and that since it was your
kitchen faucet you could *NOT* wait for a resolution, and that since
the warantee had been refused, you thought it best to buy another
brand (and also, *NOT* from Lowes).

You don't indicate what problem there was with the faucet and how long
you're using it (months,years?)... there's not much that can happen to
modern faucets that would cause them not to work at all... the
washerless cartridge can begin to drip but you'd have plenty of warning
before the drip grew to where it prohibited use. If you call
Price-Pfister they will mail you new cartridges, 'O' rings, whatever
repair kit is necessary. If there is some other problem such as
workmanship, ie. tarnishing, they will work that out too.

Had you returned the faucet to Lowes in it's original packaging and in
a timely manner, with receipt, and said "it doesn't fit, I don't like
it" Lowes would have taken the return... but Lowes does not honor
product warranties unless there is a specific agreement with the
manufacturer... Home Depot likewise. Had you called Price-Phister's
customer service they would have resolved the problem. Btw, next time
don't buy Price-Pfister, they are not a high quality product, they're
what landlords install for tenants... spend a bit more and instead
choose Delta or Koehler.

Why should they'

Because (at least around here) Lowes says that *THEY* (Lowes) will
honor/stand behind/service the warrantee of any of the products that
they sell. That would be *Lifetime*! Would you want to wait (however
long) for a warantee to be sorted out by the manufacturer on *your*
kitchen faucet? That is precisely why Lowes (and others) are offering
to honor the warantee of the products that they sell.
What good is this warantee if I'd have to wait even the time to ship
the old faucet back and them to ship out the new one (even with no
delays) without the use of my kitchen sink?

The kitchen sink isn't the only source of water in most homes. When I was
without electricity for a week I was washing stuff on the back patio using
the hose. In years gone by, it was buckets of water hauled up from a creek.
As long as the water isn't dirty, what difference does it make which faucet
it comes from?

Granted, I wouldn't want to do this on a daily basis but it's been known to
happen 🙂

I wouldn't give up on getting it replaced that easily. Contact the
manufacturer right away and inform them that Lowe's is not honouring their
warranty.

Lowes is a retailer, not a maufacturer. Lowes can only offer a
warranty on *merchantibility* of the products they sell, which merely
means that the products behave as they're meant to, ie. a water faucet
won't dissolve in water. Lowes has no obligation to repair or replace
used merchandise unless they entered into a prior agreement with the
manufacturer to make replacements or provide new parts. Often a
customer will need to check with the manufacturer first about a
replacement, whereas they will be sent an approval for the merchant to
make the exchange. I had to do that with an American Standard toilet,
it had a blemish in the surface, Lowes replaced it with a new one when
I brought the old one back with the manufacturer's approval paper...
naturally I was responsible for removal and reinstallation... guess I
should have checked more carefully before installing it... had I
noticed the blemish and brought it back before installation Lowes would
have simply accepted the return. And the instructions said in BOLD
print to examine before installation. I purchased the fixtures but I
had a plumber doing the bathroom and I wasn't there when the box was
opened... still my fault.

I also had a faucet problem, with a Delta single lever kitchen sink
unit I bought from Home Depot. A few months after installation it
began to drip. At Home Depot's instructions I called Delta and they
sent me an entire repair kit, it arrived within a week. About a year
later the darn thing began to drip again... I called and received
another repair kit... I did this a few more times over several years.
Eventually a plumber apprised me of the real problem, sand in my water,
not anything Delta did. I complained to my water company and they sent
out a crew to change all the pipes from the street main to the meter,
gave me a new meter too... I tried to get them to forget that part.

I've never had a problem making *returns* to Lowes or Home Depot....
hardly a month passes I don't return something, often many somethings.
Just last week I returned a bathroom towel bar and hook, thought I
would use them but then I didn't. Also returned about $50 worth of
boxes of bolts, nuts, and washers I thought I would need to install a
fence but then did the job a different way.

Update: DH has been working so much overtime, we only today bought
the replacement faucet. We had to shop together as neither of us
wanted to make the choice without the other's input. Anyway, we wound
up with a cheap Peerless model -- I would have much rather gotten
something nicer, but we're very short on funds at the moment. In a
day or so, we'll call Price-Pfister's toll free number and see about
getting a replacement for the old one; we'll have two kitchen faucets,
but one can be saved as a back up, just in case.

I'm not really upset with Lowe's; the faucet was at least 5 years
old, and we didn't have the receipt anymore. Just frustrated at
the lack of water, and wanted to vent. DH had to run off to work
again, so DS and I may try installing it ourselves. In the meantime,
I dragged the garden hose into the kitchen, so at least I can rinse
dishes with that water and put them in the dishwasher. I used to
drink from the hose as a kid, but now I'm too fussy. ;-)

And Sheldon was right, it didn't simply stop working. I just said
that "it died" because I didn't think anyone cared about details (I
should know RFC better than that). What happened is that it leaked;
all over under the sink and onto the floor. DH pulled the faucet out,
found that he couldn't fix it, then took it to Lowe's, leaving me
with no faucet and much frustration, so I vented here. Thanks to
everyone for their helpful replies, I do appreciate it...

Likely not a thing the matter with the faucet, it's the plumbling
leading to the faucet that's leaking, so no matter which faucet you
install the same problem will exist until the riser tubes are
replaced... probably the compression fittings are shot.... get new
tubes, the flexible stainless steel jacketed type are best.

Return the Peerless faucet, it's real [censored]... return it *before* you
futz with it. Faucets get a lot of use, especially kitchen faucets...
get the best. Kohler makes gorgeous faucets and they are truly built
to pass on a few generations... the few extra dollars are well worth it
to have trouble-free.
