Was planning on riding this afternoon, but it's too hot. It's supposed to be
cooling off this time of year in SoCal.
What do you MTBers in places like Phoenix and Albuquerque do when it's
blazing out there? Not ride? Hardly seems like an option...

BTW, where abouts in SoCal are you. I'm LA/Ventura county border.

it's been a lot hotter than this...September always is (seems pretty
cool to me by comparison). this was supposed to be a "mini" heat wave
we got, should be subsiding soon. by the description of the local
weatherman, I expected a lot worse.
but I'd definitely wait until 3 or 4 in the afternoon to do some serious
riding, if I was home during the daytime...

The only option at the moment for me is riding after work. I'm in SoCal,
in the SF valley, where it always seems to be 10 deg. hotter than
everywhere else in L.A. Been getting my kicks riding from Reseda up
Caballero Canyon, onto Mulholland and then either going to the old Nike
site, or riding back into the Santa Monica's to the Hub. Some great
scenery, and once you're up onto Mulholland, it does seem cooler than on
the valley floor. Nights are closing in now, so I usually need lighting
on the way back, and sometimes even arm warmers.
It's not a very technical ride, but it is a good workout, and it sure
beats not riding at all.

That's a cool ride with some nice scenic views of the pit.
I need to get back riding in that area soon.

not much to be had today...but it's a typical mild fall one (nothing to

that went for yesterday evening and this morning, now there's just clouds.
get back to me July-September and I'll have plenty to spare for ya.

wow I stand corrected -- it's way hotter outside than I expected.
probably about 83, must've gone up a good 10 degrees or so sometime
between 11 and noon. then again I see some big light grey clouds
looming over the southwest...so bound to be short-lived. I bet by 4pm
Pacific it's back to cool and overcast.

I Ride when it's the hottest. Nobody else out to get in the way. One of
these days I'll remember to photo the bike computer when it's displaying
116°F or so. (it'll have to wait until next year as it's finally cooling
off. It's only around 95°F today)
Really! Don't try this unless you are use to it, though.
It's fun riding up in the mountains when it's hot and the locals overheat.
It gives me an equal playing ground since I'm not use to the altitude.

It's pretty simple, really. Acclimatize, take plenty of fluids, wear
good sunscreen. Go out whenever you want.
How hot do you think it gets in Baghdad, where our soldiers are doing
patrols wearing body armor and uniforms? Wildland firefighters work the
hottest weather with smoke and flames nearby (though not close if
they're being careful).
