  1. I've upped my water and I'm even doing light jogging on my treadmill. I eat
Special K with skim milk for breakfast, a salad and a Smart ones and a
yogurt for lunch and usually chicken and veggies for dinner. I am up to 2
miles on the treadmill at a 2.0 incline at 3.0 speed. I feel so much better,
but I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT!!! I am not quitting or getting discouraged. I
WILL DO THIS!! I just need someone to help me figure out what I am doing
wrong. It's beginning to look like my goal of at least 50 pounds in a year
is slipping through my fingers. I have gone from 237.1 pounds to 224.5 since
Jan. 5. I KNOW I should be glad I haven't gained any weight, but still....
I'm a little frustrated. My husband says "You are slimming down." But the
body in the mirror looks the same to me. So does the number on the scale. 🙁

Since starting on January 5th, you have averaged 0.86 lbs
per week of weight loss. That is excellent.progress, and
represent a daily calorie deficit of 428 calories per day.

As for your plateau...that might be due to starting your
exercise program, or increasing its intensity. You might be
building some muscles, which weigh more than fat.

Also, your weight can vary from day to day. I've seen daily
weight fluctuations of up to 2.6 lbs. These can occur due to
hydration levels, time of day, bowel movements, or that
carton of Hagen-Daz ;-). These are to be expected...it's the
long term averages that are important, and yours look good.

    Keep up the good work!

A followup...at your current rate of weight loss, you will
weigh 192.8 lbs on January 1st, 2005, and will end up losing
44.3 lbs in 2004. That sounds like a very reasonable and
    worthy New Year's goal.

if i hit a plateau, i make sure i am eating my full
amount of points as the body can shut down if we eat too
little. as you are exercising alot, you may want to try
eating all of your activity points as well as you may not
    be eating enough.

you may also want to try eating different foods if you are
always eating the same thing especially for breakfast as
your body can get used to a certain food & if you have a new
    one you "challenge" it.

don't forgot hormones each month make a big impact on
weight for women. perhaps you are at the bloaty/heavy point
    at the moment?

i also like to look at other signs of weight loss than
just my weight. such as i measure myself each week or
fortnight. sometimes i see the centimetres coming off but
nothing at the scales for a while, so that makes me feel
better because in the end i don't care about what my
weight is if i am satisfied with what i see in the mirror.
i also go by clothes starting to feel a little loose and
especially what my family/friends say. sometimes when we
are constantly looking in the mirror we can't see the
    changes that are there.

you are doing a great job. keep at it & you will definitely
get to where you want to be.

Are you sure that you are eating all your points? A little
    more protein would be good.

The plateau could be caused by starting to exercise or
increasing it. When people start exercising the muscles are
stressed, and I think they retain water as part of the
healing process. The upshot is that for 2-3 weeks after
starting to exercise you will take on some water weight. It
    will come off again.

I understand your frustration and I'm glad you aren't
getting discouraged. I think you are doing OK, and you will
start losing again in a week or so.

  6. Try the tape measure! When you up the exercise and stop
losing, it's time to see if inches have gone. And it's only
2 weeks. I've got stuck at the same weight for 5 or 6 weeks
while sticking on program and journaling everything with
religious fervour. Sometimes we plateau for no readily
discernible reason. Keep going - you may well be rewarded
    with a whoosh next week.

  10. Some of us lose slower than others. I'm one of those people.
My 1 year anniversary is coming up and I expect my total to
be around 45lbs. I had hoped for a lot more but it is still
a respectable loss. Us slower losers also tend to keep the
weight off longer because the WOL has a longer time to sink
into our brains. That's a good thing.

Your menus sound very similar to mine. Are you also having
snacks or dessert with dinner? You look like you might be
eating too little. Can you post a complete sample journal
for us to see if you are eating enough points. You should be
eating at least your minimum 26 points.

My suggestion would be to mix up your menus a little bit.
Have a different breakfast/lunch/dinner every day for a week
or two to shake your metabolism up. Alternate eggs and
cereal for breakfast. You could have a english muffin with
Peanut butter as a nice change. Our bodies get into a rut
very quickly and tend to figure out that we are on a diet.
By mixing things up it keeps the metabolism guessing and
won't go into starvation mode. Even alternative cereals
every other day helps too. I found that I love the Kashi
    Cinnamon raison crunch (1cup=2points).

You also need to add some fat into your diet. I added flax
seed capsules to help me add it to mine. Peanut butter or
full fat salad dressing is another good way of adding fat.

  11. My first guess would be that you aren't eating enough and
it's a good possibility that your metabolism is slowing down
to keep you from starving. Unless you are eating a large
quantity of chicken and special k - I don't see where you
are getting in 26 points each day, plus a few more for your
activity points. You could post a few of your daily journals
and let us take a peek at them. Often the people here can
see where you might be able to make changes. Another thought
... have you cut out all fats from your diet? If so, that
can also drastically slow things down. You do need fats -
GOOD fats (not the icky ones from salad dressings, creams,
etc.). Like adding a little bit of olive oil to cooking, or
higher fat fishes, or peanut butter or a few nuts. I don't
know why, but it does seem that cutting all fats from the
    diet does hinder losses.
