I asked that because I saw a picture of a fairly empty highway with a
huge number of people waiting for a bus. A bus. When I was pretty sure
that a troop transport could haul hella more people than a Greyhound or
two.

I'm not sure which pic you mean, so I have no idea if that highway can
land a C-130. Wikipedia lists the C-130's capacity as 92 regular
troops, so call it 100 or 110 Katrina refugees -- they won't be carrying
anything near the gear a single soldier will be carrying (which speaks
to the problems they have). A timeline on Greyhound's site says they
got their largest-ever busses in 1998; they can carry 55 people.

The PA ANG's 911th Airlift Wing is sending down a couple of C-130s to
be used as flying hospitals; in that configuration they can mount about
70 stretchers.
