  1. Well, I'm not much for getting on the scale weekly, or even monthly, but
tonight I did and was pleasantly surprised. I knew I was losing inches
because my close were fitting much looser, but I never imagined that I would
see the number I did. I originally started low carbing a couple years ago
and lost about 70 pounds. After stalling, I got frustrated and veered away
from low carb. The result was that I gained most of the weight back that I
had lost. Around the beginning of April I got back on track and started LC
again, including weighing myself. I have not weighed myself since, but
tonight I stepped on the scale and saw a 56 pound loss!! I was elated. This
put me below the weight that I was at when I fell off the wagon a while
back. I have actually been a bit lees strict this time by allowing myself an
occasional "cheat", but on the other hand I have been a lot more active,
mostly doing more outside work. My job also involves more physical labor.
Basically I lost the weight because I ate less and exercised more. What a
concept! Also, this loss puts me about half way to my goal which may get
adjusted when I get there. I'll just have to see how the old body looks at
    that point.

I would be too, Chris! How did you ever keep from peeking at a scale for
four months? Doesn't matter. What matters is that you're happy and you're
    succeeding. Way to go!

Yeah, something like that. :-) I really wish I had been doing my
weightlifting on a regular basis this whole time, because I know I'd even be
further along, but with the hours I've been working it's been about

I haven't been obsessed with the scale this time around. The first time I
was LCing, I weighed myself almost daily. This just led to disappointment
when you showed a small gain or no loss. I told myself that this time I
would rely more on how my clothing fit, how my measurements were (even
though I hardly did any measurements during this time), and also on people's
comments. In the last few weeks, several people had said that I lost a lot
of weight. I knew that I had lost some because of the clothing, but never
imagined it was as much as it was. This method may not work for everyone,
but I like the fact that you don't have the emotional letdown of seeing the
scale go the wrong way, or not moving. I guess if it works ya keep doing it.
    LOL

This last five years or so is the first time in my life when I've had the
luxury of lifting on a regular basis. When I did manual labor before I
joined the Army, I was usually too tired to do any serious lifting. Then in
the Army there was always field time getting in the way. During college I
had to study a lot. All those excuses are life getting in the way. At least
we can still eat less when everything else is beyond our capabilities.

Unfortunately it is a bit of a catch 22. The last job I had before becoming
self-employed kept me at a desk all day, but for very long hours. Now I do
much more physical thing with my current situation, but damn, by the end of
the day the last thing I want to do is lift more weight. Once we get things
settled here a bit, there should be enough time to get back into a pretty
decent weight routine. I really miss it because the results from
weightlifting seem to come rather quickly for me. Knowing this, I'm pretty
sure I could have been a lot farther along. I guess we have to do what we
    have to do.

Thanks Saffire. I've seen your pics and you have made great progress. To be
honest, I thought about my situation last night, and discovered a few
things. First off, my weight loss seems to have sped up quite a bit when I
quit drinking coffee. I used to have about 2-4 cups a day. I still allow
myself a can of diet Coke or two per day. Also, like I said in my original
post, I have become much more active, mainly due to a change in employment.
I am now self employed and I am on the go much more than before. The other
thing that has changed is that I used to cook larger portions of my meals,
and keep the leftovers for the next day. The problem with that is I would
eat larger portions knowing that it was there. I like the convenience of
cooking larger portions, but not if it is going to sabotage my weight loss
efforts. In that case, I'd rather cook each meal one at a time. The really
strange thing is that I have been less strict about "cheating". I'll admit
to having had a Subway sub on occasion, among other things. I don't eat
sweets any more, but I will have an occasional small baked potato. I believe
that by doing this I take in less calories due to the fact that I curb the
cravings for certain carby foods I still like. I plan on tracking my weight
monthly now, just to see how I am doing, but I'm not changing anything until
the weight loss stops or slows way down.

    Chris
