On the link below are a couple of nice shots of scenery as two geeks (I'm
the one in the yellow Aldi top) push their bikes to the top of the Garburn
Pass in The Lakes.
Three of us spent Saturday 15th/Sun 16th Oct. based in Ambleside and were
blessed with weather we'd be happy to have in July.
On Sat we went off-road, as much as poss, from Ambleside to Grizedale where
we picked up the recently opened techical trail, complete with boarded
sections,
before circling back via the north of Loughrigg Fell.
Sunday had us do the shorter, but possibly more arduous route, climbing all
the way from Ambleside to the Garburn Pass, the higher sections were walked
up as shown in the pictures.
Unfortunately we were too pre-occupied on the descent to Kentmere to take
pictures! Believe me, it was very exciting!
The Marin shown is my '99 Rift Zone which still has the original frame,
shock, seatpost, stem and shifters :-) Early last year it had a major
makeover: re-paint of the swing-arm and stem, Hope discs, new forks and
riser bars which made it ride like a totally different bike (don't know how
big a part the re-spray played in the change of ride characteristics ;-)
