Nexus 8-speed internal gear

Nobody outside of Shimano has used it, they haven't started shipping them yet.

John McCarthy asked a number of questions about the Nexus 8-speed, which I answered from memory
from my home.

Now I'm at the shop and I can answer his question about weight. According to the spec sheet from
Shimano, the hub weighs 1750 grams.

That is without a Rollerbrake...it appears that this hub will be sold separately from the
Rollerbrake, with the Rollerbrake as an add-on option.

Thanks! I had a look at them and was rather badly surprised how unevenly spaced they are:

1 0.527
22.2% 2 0.644
23.1% 3 0.748
24.8% 4 0.851
25.5% 5 1
26.3% 6 1.223
27.% 7 1.419
28.8% 8 1.615

The 22% jump between 5 and 6 is especially bad, because presumably on most bikes these gears will
correspond to "normal" speed (i.e. flat, no wind, medium effort).

Thanks for answering my questions.

In case anybody is interested, I found some more information written about the new 8-speed Nexus hub on this Australian page.

I think that I might wait until the 8R Sport is available. I went to my LBS, and the guy that works there called Shimano, and the Shimano guy confirmed that the 8R Sport will be lighter and more efficient than the plain 8R; he didn’t say by how much. He didn’t say when it will be made available to bike shops either.

Does this hub have 135 mm spacing?
