I got no problem here w/GigaNews. Not much traffic in the past 24-36
hrs. If you have any messages filtered (blocked) they could show up in
the total message tally, but you will not be able to download them due
to the filter.

I got no problem here w/GigaNews. Not much traffic in the past 24-36 hrs.
If you have any messages filtered (blocked) they could show up in the
total message tally, but you will not be able to download them due to the
filter.

I was wondering about that yesterday, because after I got home from a (shhh,
road) ride, there were ZERO new messages on here. (And only one or two
stragglers later on, IIRC.)

Was gone ALL day today (S.A.R.T., baby!), and there still weren't many
messages (maybe 15 or 20). I choose to think that everyone was out
riding...

I have only ridden the Glass Road to South Fork section.

I have only ridden the Glass Road to South Fork section.

I don't know the names, but we took two new (to us) singletrack sections
today, and they were in great shape.

Coming back from South Fork, however, we took the "usual" singletrack, and
it had a LOT of downed logs across the trail. Might be a while until
they're cleared.

The only really crappy section is the singletrack with all the felled trees,
and even that wouldn't be too bad /early/ in the ride rather than near the
end when really tired.

What we did yesterday ("guided" by others) was bypass the singletrack
descent just up from the Post Office -- instead climbing the fireroad about
two miles and then hitting a /different/ ST descent. A bit longer, maybe,
but not as good "flow" as the usual one. Fun nonetheless.

Then, once we were down to the fireroad, we passed up the first ST entrance
and took a second one (half-mile or so past first one). That was
terrific -- fast and packed down well -- then we came to a BIG water
crossing (shallow white water rapids) that was challenging but refreshing,
but somehow lost the ST and ended up climbing a hot, dusty fireroad that
just wouldn't end.

Finally came out on the road, and again were "guided" to descend on it for
/miles/ back to the traditional ST crossing, so then we CLIMBED out toward
the campground, gaining back all the elevation we'd just lost. (Billy knew
a better way, but didn't insist. If only we'd known...)

Anyway, it was on the way back that we encountered all the downed logs. So
if there's a way to take that same ST we took on the way out instead, that
would be a good call. You're right, it's going to take a chainsaw-wielding
yahoo a long time to clear the whole trail.

Final thrill, as you well know, is that 3-mile fireroad grind back up to
civilization -- especially fun when the afternoon sun is blaxing down upon
one's noggin!

That's not a grind, it's even easy on a 2:1 singlespeed. You need to
get offa that GRS bike more often, my friend. BTW, I cheated and
climbed out on pavement instead of going the log-climb route when there
about a month ago. I always ride it out and back and on the out route,
found out that I didn't want to return that way.

Well ACTUALLY, the road bike /helps/ with long steady uphills -- that was

Well ACTUALLY, the road bike /helps/ with long steady uphills -- that was
only time all day I pulled far away from some others. But you're right -- I
gotta roll the knobbies more often!

Well, I must admit that North Sandog County does have a few
hills...though you do need to hone those dirt skills.

I went up there yesterday and had a fantastic ride, skipping the
log-jam and just riding. It's funny, near Hwy 38 someone appears to
have done some faux trail work, but skipped the couple of blown-out
sections further down the trail. I certainly hope they didn't think
they were doing any good by widening the trail for about a mile or so.
